Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Feel free to jump in and discuss lol even if you aren't Demigod alumni

So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

just log into steam and type "dota2 beta" in search and press sign up or whatever it is - that's it. It's just the interest phase atm.

completely agree - everyone should sign up for the beta for dota2.  I'm not sure if I'll like it, but companies are throwing big money at lol and dota2.  Worth giving it a go.

I played quite a few fun games tonight with old folks from dg.  Played a bit with rawr, pete, mac, cow, futileemotion, etc.  We had 1 game last like an hour and 10 min... got 300+ ip for it.  Very nice.  I always enjoy when I'm pretty close to unlocking another player after a few hours of play.

Anyway, I'll add some more comments if I think of it tomorrow.  I think I enjoy best the games where we have 5 of the folks I know playing against whoever.  Pugs are ok, but honestly, I don't know anyone that is so great that they could carry anyone... and I sure as shite can't carry any but myself if I'm having a gg.  Most often the pug's I play are just one siding nonsense.  We get someone that sucks and dies over and over or the other team does.  I think I'll be enjoying ranked pugs once I level (but zen seemed to indicate they are crap with griefers, etc).  Anyway, I have played like 50+ games and encountered exactly 1 griefer now... hopefully that ratio is maintained.

Oh - and my latest char is fiddlesticks.  I find that if I have been fing up, I just go with sil.  I play reasonably cautiously and at a distance with her.

Anyone else bump into yourmaker in vent?  He's usually logged on as ok or something to that effect.  He doesn't speak very good English and just joins the channel and mutters on... but his volume is so low, you can't even hear him.  Anyway, just curious if anyone is actually friends with him or what.  From what I could gather, he'd just keep muttering on and everyone in channel just ignored him.  I think he's trying to be annoying for some reason, but you can't understand him well or even hear him.  Just figure he's some lonely fella.  Kind of sad.

I'll be playing some lol tonight methinks.  Must decide what 1350 ip character to unlock next.  Any suggestions?  I have siv, twisted fate, viking guy... I think all of the ones that cost 350 ip or whatever the super cheap ones are.  Is there a good tank in that price range?

amumu, nunu, alister, Dr.Mundo, Nasus, Singed, Sion

I like all of them except Nasus but he might be your thing.

And how do you know it's your_maker and not me? I never use a microphone, remember? Maybe that's because I'm afraid my horrible French/Vallon accent will expose me...

if its you, your understanding of languages has reverted to that of a mongoloid.  He's just a lonely guy that seems to have some sort of obsession with a few of us.  I don't understand it, but hey, I also really don't care.  Was just curious if anyone had any insight as to why someone with no understanding of English would attempt to insult folks in English.  It's really just a little sad a wee bit funny.  I'd rather just figure out what his grief is and send him on his way, tbh.

That said, if you ever get bored, hop onto the pub vent and shoot him a pm.  He literally seems to just sit around in vent and wait for people to talk to or pm.  Really.

Installed the game and tried out. Could be quite fun if I'd be willing to spend time on it (too many champions and items imho).

For those who have installed it you might consider deinstalling Pando Media Booster. It's a P2P Programm that's installed by the downloader file and used to distribute the game files. As it puts itself in auto start, you constantly have it running and eventually taking some of your upload bandwith (which at least can be quite annoying when playing games like demigod).

for you.  Thanks!  I removed it and then tried LoL again - no issues, so you certainly don't HAVE to have it installed for LoL to work.

Once you get used to LoL, the number of characters (there are a lot) becomes less daunting.  You just eventually fall into a grove after trying out a bunch of them and starting learning to be good with some.

but then I have to DO something...isnt it easier just to ask and sit here like 95% of the rest of the world who wonder why there are people in the world more succesfull then them?

Thank you!

WOW...Looks very promising! I still want to play Demigod though . And only wih OMG_IN1

Just something I observed yesterday, but Morgana seems popular among you all. Do you all like her playstyle or what?

on Aug 20, 2011

I just find she's easy to use.  The stun is great if you have to get away and the ranged dmg is excellent.  I'll probably officially unlock her very soon as its a bit of fun and very effective support.
