Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Feel free to jump in and discuss lol even if you aren't Demigod alumni

So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

Off to bed, but just saw this.

If you don't know about mega 64, do yourself a favor and spend some time digging through their website.  Lots of very funny stuff that you probably haven't seen.

That said, the following is a bit of satire on the video game industry, but its actually very, very accurate.  Give you a nickle if you know who it is about.

Excited by the mastery changes. I like that there are some geared towards supports (+starting gold, gold/10).  I think those along with receiving more $ for assists could encourage a bit less passivity with the bot meta. The new cleanse and surge/promote should shake things up a bit too, although Trynd with cleanse could be brutal! I'm a little surprised these are going into the next patch. Could be a rough week for stability.

I was 3/6 last night. Lots of trolling. Would love some premades tonight.

on Nov 14, 2011

Yeah - I'm hoping the patch comes out soon.  Lots of new things to try out - should make things very fresh.

Not sure how much I'll be on tonight... we'll see if my brain kicks into overdrive.  Running on like 3 hours of sleep today.  smeh

Hey, people.

After some breaks and comebacks with this game, I think, that now I'll be playing more again. However, I am not skilled, so usually end up doing quite bad in most matches... Then people blame each other, etc. I'd like to avoid this, because it really pushes me off from this game. So if anyone is willing to play with me, please add me "Darkliath" (US server). I wouldn't blame you for any mistakes and please don't do this to me. Any suggestions are fine as long as they are not given in a "curse" form.

I usually play support role (Taric, Janna), but lately trying to play Teemo (because he is cute). Can play anything else, but... That wouldn't be good for the team, I think.

Quick request - if you are just fing around, tell pacov in advance so he knows what's coming his way.

I usually say that I am sleepy. Not always though, because someone like Peter might be asking me to play another or something. So I might play that another with my one eye sleeping and half brains working. I'll try to inform more often.

on Nov 14, 2011

Yeah, instead of not playing I've decided to learn some of the champs I want to get competent with.

Veigar - AP

Nunu - Jungle

Tris - Ranged AD

Yorick - Just a wild and crazy guy!

Its funny to me seeing the folks griping about balance with this patch looming.  "Mordekaiser will be good again!"  "Mordekaiser will be worse!"  IMO they're mostly just internally balancing in a way with the AD carries because... well, like its going to be a crazy shift in the game so no point in tweaking too much.

And no point in turning your nose up at my choice of champions I'm dialing in... you might be looking at the new T1 OP crew with all the changes happening.

Nah, dark - you've always been cool in my book and don't need to do anything like that.  I was really just pissed because in the game I was referring to had folks that decided it would be fun to just fug around.  I don't get mad if people I know are having a crap game.  I have crap games.  What I don't do is put 4 people at the bottom of the map, feed, refuse to respond to pings or requests for help mid or top, between 10-18 minutes of the game.  That's kind of a dick move imo, and the reason for my angry little post.  I enjoy when I get to play on your team, dark.  Anyway, matter of fact, I was probably mostly upset because there were a series of games with trolls in them prior to the game with my pals and I didn't expect more trolling.  That was kind of my WTF why even bother playing with pals moment.

on Nov 14, 2011

I will add you Darkliath. I don't mind if you make mistakes as long as you learn from them   I'm not going to pretend that I don't make mistakes. I play Taric and Janna a lot so if you have any questions about them, feel free to ask.

@Thundercles

I don't think those are bad choices at all.

Nunu can be pretty strong in lane too from what I've seen.

Veigars need a good team to protect them, but one good stun can change the game.

Tris-I'm interested to see the buffs/nerfs to the carries. I've always wanted to be good with Trist, but she takes a long time to hit her stride I find. She can really dominate later game though.

Yorick has great sustain and his ult has the potential to turn teamfights if used right. Underrated I would say. Interested to see if anything changes with top lane meta.

Thundercles
Veigar - AP

Nunu - Jungle

Tris - Ranged AD

Yorick - Just a wild and crazy guy!

I never could get a good feel for Veigar - the timing on his stun and the placement for it kept throwing me.  I don't even think I've played nunu more than once - I should again, though.  Saw someone the other day using him really well.  I don't think I've seen a good yorick yet, so perhaps you'll be the first!

I get what you are saying about balance, though.  Really hard to say how big these changes are going to be.  Just hoping it goes live today or tomorrow or w/e.

on Nov 14, 2011

@re: veigar - how exactly does his stun work (event horizon)?  For instance, if I cast it directly where a person is standing, it only nabs them if they cross the spell effect, right?  If they just stand in the effect and don't cross it, then they are ok and not stunned?  Do they get stunned if they walk into it?  Or only if they are in it and then walk out of it?  Strange ability.  Thanks.

edit - oh, one of the most fun games I've played was with a taric and sion bottom along with a xin as a jungler.  Love all those stuns.

on Nov 14, 2011

The best way to use the stun is as a cage for a sedentary opponent, or to hit them with it when they're running.  When they're running, slap down your nuke right where they will intersect the edge, and you can tag them during the stun.  When they aren't moving, you can often force them into a stun by just plopping one down dead center.  Either they move to dodge it, and probably get stunned, or they take the damage.

If you're good, you cast it at the right location to actually appear with the edge on them for an instant stun to go with the nuke.

on Nov 14, 2011

Well the tool tip says this:

Event Horizon - Veigar twists the edges of space around the target location for 3 seconds, stunning enemies who pass through the perimeter for a short duration.

Veigar twists the edges of space around the target location for 3 seconds, stunning enemies who pass through the perimeter for 1.5/1.75/2/2.25/2.5 seconds.
You are stunned right away if you are already in the perimeter, but it is tricky to place in my experience. Otherwise, you get stunned if you try and move out of it.

Missed ya aragorn (the dude II).  Think I invited you once or twice.  Catch u sometime soon, I'm sure.

Played a few games tonight from like 9pm est-11:30 or so est.  My most enjoyable games were with doggu (butch ).  Let me walk you through pacovs brain this evening... might prove interesting, might not and be boring... at any rate, enjoy pacov's thought process if you like.

I hang out with my wife from like 5-9pm est (right after work).  I was considering going to bed early (4 hours or sleep or so previous night), but a big storm tore through Ohio complete with thunder every 30-50 seconds.  This made me quickly accept that I wasn't going to fall asleep soon.  Anyway, my wife actually does fall asleep.  I wait a little bit then head down and decide what to play - skyrim or lol.  I remember aragorn's post about wanting to do some pre, so I jump on lol.  He's not online or out of game when I get on, so I try to decide if I'll solo or invite some folks.  I check and I see Karl online, paintmaster, and isdoggu (seriously, doggu was taken?  the world is broken).   I think if I join karl, I'll need to start with a ranked game (as he indicated hating playing normal games recently (wait for later to respond)).  I decided to shoot doggu an invite.  He joins immediately.  I then try to inv paint.  He's afk apparently.  We launch.  I decide I just want to dominate, so I go ap sion and doggu goes lane fid (not a huge fan of lane fid, but doggu does it really well).  Anyway, we end up on this meh team.  I'm laned with xin top (we have no jungle).  The xin is randomly passive.  So, pretty much every time I go for a kill, he's just far enough away that we get the kill and I die.... this happens multiple times (leaving me richer with money, but annoyed at dying completely unnecessarily - as getting a kill would have happened quite easily if he backed me up more.  I will trade 1 for 1 if I need to get sion more money so I can dominate, but obviously I don't want to give them any money.  And every death in the entire game happened completely unnecessarily because our team was very passive when it mattered.  I finally figured out that my team was going to be a bunch of shites when we grouped up as 5 at mid... doggu pops his ult.  The other 3 on my team literally run away now.  I dive... doggu and I easily kill 2.  Then the other 2-3, all with low hp kill us off.  We engaged because our team was there... as soon as doggu made his move to ult/flash, these shites literally ran off.  Made no sense.  Gave me 2 kills anyway, but completely pointless deaths again.  Anyway, I decide that I cannot trust these idiots at all and can only rely on doggu.  So, I get doggu to back me up and we tear up bot.  I also wait for one of the other goofs to engage before I go I in as I'm sure they will run off.  This results in like 4 kills for me doing the cleanup on isle sion bit.  Anyway, we win, but our team was shite.  Kuddos to doggu.

Next game is doggu/pacov/jona/zen.  So, I'll start with this:  Jona is okay for me in small dosages.  If you've played with jona, you'll understand that he can do no wrong.  For instance, he chose jax.  We don't have a jungler.  He doesn't take smite.  He buys armor + health pots. He asks me and doggu to help him take blue at the start (side note - this is retarded).  We try, but the blue ogre resets.  This is doggu's fault apparently.  Anyway, now with much less mana, I figure jona and I will try to destroy top quite easily 2v1.  Nope.  After 2 waves of creeps jona decides to become the wandering jungler.  Fast forward 8 minutes in... jona has just hit level 4.  I haven't seen him top lane as he's still wandering without any real ability to work the jungle.  Anyway, I get so annoyed with jona, I start fing up and getting frustrated.  My stats were certainly better than jona, but I died more than I should have.  Jona then shared that the monkey lord we were fighting top is OP and that there was no way we could have taken him or pushed him if the 2 of us worked the lane... after all, jona says he has never lost using monkey lord (JONA - PLEASE ONLY USE CHARACTERS THAT MAKE YOUR STRATEGY AND PLAY STYLE INVINCIBLE - if you cannot lose with a particular character, you are obviously doing your team a disservice by using any other character).  Anyway, we eventually surrender.  Again, I'll admit I didn't play amazingly well.  Better than jona based on stats, ofc, but not well.

And last game, I inv karl and doggu.  We play one out with me as grag, karl as panth (he loves playing panth when he can), and doggu as fid.  I cover mid against a really, really bad twitch.  Bad to the point of wandering away from his tower multiple times and letting me destroy it really quickly and easily.  Anyway, we win and it was a nice way to end the night.  Nothing super exciting about the game... I did, to their credit, end up spending 1200 gold on oracles (they had twitch and shaco).... this is quite bad, but paid out in kills in the end.  Completely my fault for letting them get me at least 1 of those times.

Surge + new masteries may make Skarner a pretty strong solotop. My opinion is still, jungler should jungle

But Surge will be really strong on him, I think. Still think someone like Renek or Nasus is far stronger top but... meh.

Flash nerf isn't too crazy... the range reduction is pretty significant though. Still totally able to flash through walls and such and so I think it'll still be popular (which is good... it should be). I do suspect a lot of high level play will be rocking mostly Flash. But on some characters, Ghost or Cleanse might take its place (Ghost is already great on solotop Skarner and Signed). Cleanse for people with spammable dashes that can through walls already, like Trynd.

Cleanse is pretty strong now. It might make for some pretty interesting solotop matchups. (More interesting than "ha, I exhaust you!" "No, I exhaust you!" at least).

CV got hit like a "truck" though... 8 seconds of sight every 70 seconds compared to 10 every 40.

With the mastery changes massively buffing junglers, and CV nerfs making counter-jungling riskier while also making ganks easier... we'll see. But I think the utility of CV (no face checking, counter jungling, baron + dragon control) is powerful enough I think it'll still be on most teams.

Surge will be pretty scary on Tristana... AP scaling abilities with a pretty high attack speed.

Played some games with Darkliath today and it was fun.  Shj did well, i was up and down.  I was playing Urgot one game and I swear to God I had a global taunt ability that would have made Veigar and Teemo totally jealous.  Think Dark might have been 5/0 at one point from killing people who wanted to gank and tower dive me.  I try and be a good person, be kind to animals and stuff... why all the suicidal hatred for me?

@Pacov n Aragorn  I love Veigar!  Wasn't sure I would because I hate Annie and only play her when no one on the team will pick an AP.  So I figured I just wasn't an AP champ sorta guy maybe.  Turns out I just hate playing Annie... because I don't like her... because I'm horrible with her... because I'm not motivated to get better with her... because I hate playing her... because...

Just one game with Veigar and I'm completely hooked.  Love trying to coordinate the stun and delay shot and... well everything. Think I'll be buying Baron Von Veigar tomorrow.  Strange what champs we gravitate to and which ones we don't like...

@Hedgie

See above picture.  You were right about the jungle man... holy crap.  Does anyone who plays WW know if 5:10 is a good time to have your jungle and Dragon cleared?  I've only tried a few times and think I can tweak things to go a little faster...
