Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Feel free to jump in and discuss lol even if you aren't Demigod alumni

So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

I see...

The absurd Kog'Maw was indeed fed, and was lucky enough to get quite a few Living Artillery snipe-kills...

In short, I think that the player was really doing it just for the lulz...

Madred's is obscenely cost effective even at 2k hp, I don't rush it though, PD first, Madred's comes on Kog after you've gotten your AS up and your W maxed, when the enemy team is uber tanky.

I usually play AD Kog though, not AS Kog.  AS Kog is magic damage, nubs that go AD as Kog and build a Madreds are boning their team.  PD and IE make the world go round there, not adding even more magic damage.  You need 160+ AD just to match w's magic damage against a carry.  For a 4k hitpoint tank, it's a serious investment to be AD.

So - I was wondering if its possible to lookup a player's stats to find out if they are crap, etc.  Turns out you can, but its generally not practical.

1st - if you are NOT in a game lobby, you can just do this to lookup someone you've never played with before.

Go to your profile, the person icon on the top right of your screen, there is a white rectangle box just under the icons, and you can type in the person's summoner name, hit enter, and it will likely turn up on your page. Likewise you can click on masteries and runes to see what they use. To put it back to your own profile, just click on the person icon again.

Again note - that doesn't get you what I'm talking about, but its something I didn't know and thought I'd pass it along.

Here's how you could view a players stats BEFORE a game launches.  Guess what?  Its lousy, but you could do so with a separate pc or virtual machine on your current pc (along with a separate LoL account). Just look at your current lobby and type in the user names into your virtual machine or pc.  I don't think its really practical to do, but I took a look and thought I'd share.  #pacovsrandomthoughts

Off to bed - quick thoughts on games tonight.  I played as support janna all night (heal + flash - no cv).  I played full support.  Game one I was completely awesome.  Game 2 = ok at least.  Game 3 = decent.  Watched the live stream of some super pro jackhole and learned a few things that I was able to emulate.  The absolute best use of her ult (or at least the coolest) is walking up close enough to another player.  Using whirlwind to knock up.  Then walk behind them and ult immediately into your team.  Obviously, its very situational, but I managed to pull it off perfectly in game one (out of my 3 or so previous games as her).

Janna was like a perfect counter in my ok game with me and karl laned together (trist).  We were up against a zil + someone not memorable.  Every time the zil would bomb, I'd just cast the shield and it counter almost completely early game.  Oh well, I think I'll build up some experience with her.  She was fun to play and support is a great role as long as you stay on top of it.  I do hate the low dmg output early (well, even most of the game tbh - just super weak early).

She really requires some solid twitch reflexes, though.  She can actually unload an ok amt of damage early, but only if you are like perfect.  AA - knockup, AA - then her w - and another aa if possible... but you also have to shield yourself to mitigate dmg. It's a ton of fast mouse movements even with smart cast on.  You have to be super fast with it (faster than with any other character I've used anyway).  So, its a little rough to push some aggro especially if you want to play super support.  She's another character that I think would be super great to be using in vent with folks.  If I could coordinate with my teammate that I'm going to use my q immediately, they could pop in and get a few AA or ability dmg hits fast.  That plus a jungler popping in = kill town.  I also think my using gragas and being very used to his ult is quite helpful for figuring out where I need to be standing to shoot folks in a diff direction. Maybe you should try grag, aragorn, if you want to work on your ult more?  What I'm not accessing right is her ult as a heal.  It sounds like it might be useful on paper, but its really not in my experience.  I think that maybe it doesn't give its 1st second heal immediately maybe (its a 4 second or so heal for X amt).  Anyway, I've very confident that running with heal is a good call though.  Flash is PROBABLY needed, but I'm not 100% sold on it... she prob needs it though.  Anyway, night folks.  Thx for the games!

I liked how you jungled with her. It brought me great amusement how you'd spent roughly 30 seconds killing the golems.

Hey!

If you want to check player statistics, you can check here:

http://www.lolstatistics.com/

Of course, it takes some time if you do this in game... But you can see a lot here. Win ratio, last matches, your teammates in them, how much elo you gained/lost during matches (normals elo also). It has changed a bit since I last saw, though... I remember it having a problem with counting deaths. I had like ~100 kills to one death, while reality was entirely different. Can't tell if it is working correctly now. it also shows items, usual stats shown in the page of your game history. What I like is, it shows changes since last update. So I play for a day, update and see how much elo I gained/lost, etc. Then another day and so on.

And WOW! There are signatures now!

Another thing is this:

http://lolcave.com/ec/

Elo calculator. Not absolutely accurate, but pretty good. You need to know wins and losses. Then you can count your normals elo. The bigger, the better opponents you play against.

I secretly knew that you were never good with numbers.  14 seconds tops, but still bad.  Shut your pie hole.

@dark - that lol statistics site doesn't have stats for everyone though (so its not really useful for the reason I suggested), but it does sound like something useful for tracking your own info.

What do you mean? I think it does have stats for everyone... If info is old, press update, and you see current stats. Am yet to see a person, who is not shown in there.

on Nov 19, 2011

Well.. their cover page says they have stats for like 1 million... there are 34 mil... so, I figure there are some missing.  I checked my stats and they were mostly accurate.  I checked a few in one game and several were missing, but found some.  So, its a little hit and miss.

Got to play some games this morning/afternoon.  All as TF.  Had quite a bit of fun.  Had a couple of very clutch tps in for kills, etc.  Now that I understand how his ult works and the timing, it is soo much fun.  I've been sticking with attack speed tf and then going a little hybrid.  I've also been running around like a goof with smite, though I don't really jungle much.  Mostly just using if for the extra farming.

I've been starting with dorians blade, then berserker's greaves, malady.  After that, I'm either going to rageblades () or working to nashor's tooth from stinger.

I'm not really all that decided on masteries, though.  I've been building offensive heavy.  Like 29/1/0 (one if def for smite/heal bonus).  That might be fairly stupid, but its actually worked 100% of the time so far.

My runes are just silly as I'm not sure what to build.  I actually had him as magic penetration (which I've decided is stupid and will go armor next).  2 seals of vitality (all I have), mana regen seals for the rest (mana is a problem if you aren't rock solid with hitting your blue over and over and over).  and then just magic resist for glyphs.  For quints, I'm running 1 attack speed + 2 flat health bonus.

As you can tell, that's a bit of a mess.  Suggestions are appreciated, but I think I'm sticking with the attack speed focus + hybrid. Easily my most silly build yet, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

smeh - just been pugging it up a storm tonight.  Nothing but the crapastic for teammates.  Last game I was 12/0/2 mid... until our kayle made it clear that she had no freaking clue how to build or use kayle.  Anyway, here goes another...

on Nov 20, 2011

Well... then i went janna again and had a pretty lousy game myself.  So question, for you experienced folks.  I'm bot lane as jana - teamed up with an ash.  After a bit, we have nearly killed their tower.  My jungler is completely useless and hasn't considered coming bot ever even though we are working the other team.  Anyway, its 14 min in.  Their tower has about 150 hp.  Ours is about 80% full.  I'm thinking we should push a creep wave and knock it out.  My teammate just wants to last hit... what was a better idea?

edit - finished the night out ok I quess.  Had a 4 man pre.  Picked up a JUNGLE KAYLE.  Not surprisingly, the Kayle was completely useless to me for easy ganks.  The surprise was that she ended like 14/2/4 or something like that.  Insane.  The enemy team never focused her even though she was a complete nontank.  Oh well.  Glad we won, but I think we would have lost it easily if any of us were playing like crap.

on Nov 21, 2011

Last hit if your other lanes are doing so so, drop if your other lanes are pushing or pushed.  Once the towers drop, team fights start and your victorious position becomes whatever the team as a whole is in.  If you can keep your lane dominated without dropping the first tower, you get to press a monetary advantage until something slides, leaving under fed opponents to butcher.

on Nov 21, 2011

OK - well, my other lanes were doing poorly because my jungler was completely useless (a gank = I walk up behind my teammates in lane and magically kill anyone stupid enough to stay there).  So, I think I had the right idea anyway.  My take is that as soon as we drop the tower at bot, then at least 1 of us can roam... and that means janna can easily hold the lane if needed.
