Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Ah Stardock - foolish, foolish Stardock.  You went too far when you choose to capitalize on the amazing work of Rebellion studios by calling your game Sins of a Solar Empire:  Rebellion.  Fools.  We all know that seeing the word Rebellion immediately causes all of us to think of Rebellion studios.  We then immediately purchase whatever content has the name Rebellion in it because we think its a product of Rebellion studios.  You are terrible, terrible, people Stardock.  Also in the news:  Rebellion studios is suing Arcade Fire for their song Rebellion, the French movie Rebellion, the use of the term "Shay's Rebellion" from the 1700's, Starwars Rebellion from 1998, and Mass Effect Rebellion.

Here's the court documents: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_zz3inaULaXa2Y0bExwN3RZZ00/edit?pli=1

I wonder why rebellion studio's has not started capitalizing on their incredible brand by creating games like Sniper Elite: Rebellion.  Surely there will be more sales if their name is the fugging title.  Kuddos impressive lawyers.  May terrible things happen to your sad, company Rebellion.  Bad business.

I  sent (unsolicited and solely by my own choice) the following response to Rebellion Studios:

Dear Sirs,

I reside in Michigan and I'm a fan of the "Sins of a Solar Empire " series by Stardock. You're sleazy effort to grab some cash, free as a result of Stardock's "Sins of Solar Empire: Rebellion" release is distasteful to say the least.

Maybe you can quickly trademark the words "Entrenchment" and "Diplomacy " as well and add those in to your suit for an ever bigger "profit".

Sad thing is, I'm a huge 2000 A.D. fan from way back and have your Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper games as well as some of your Mongoose products. I guess it's easier for you to sue for income than actually create new products for it now.

No more for me. You just joined the ranks of opportunistic Bankers, Politicians and Apple on the sue-for-greed express. I'll be sure to share my feeling prolifically with other gamers as well.

Tacky, sirs. Thanks for helping suck the livelihood out of another Michigan company.

For anyone else so minded, they can be reached here.

...personally, I never knew Stardock was here in Michigan. Cool.

Also, this suit is stupid. Rebellion shouldn't be wasting the court's time on something this stupid, when they will definitely lose.

I'd send Rebellion a letter, but it might turn into one big flame.

I remember when Bethesda tried to claim ownership over the word Scrolls!

Damn, I'm old

Definately facepalm territory.

Yup. You know I wonder if them and Mojang ever had that game of Team Fortress 2...

Clearly Stardock and Rebellion should settle this over a game of civilization.

I'm not sure what's more stupid, this suit, or the fact that a Youtube video/description is being used as evidence of some sort. A really sad reflection on the state of the game industry, imo.

I was more pissed when the Nicaraguans stole the name for their little coup. The nerve of some people!

on Aug 17, 2012

What the fuck did I just read? Could this be, the ultimate stupidity that we imagined long gone? Are the cavemen returning?

Find out soon, in Humanity At War : Rebellion.

I  hope Brad decides to fight this one. I mean, he just renamed Entrepreneur 2 to The Corporate Machine when Entrepreneur magazine sued over the use of their name.  Didn't have the resources to fight that sort of suit then, though.

Sorry guys - bad news.  You are all now being sued by rebellion studios.  The basis of the suit is that you all are trying to draw attention to your posts utilizing Rebellion's studios name.  I wonder if there's a way we can sue rebellion studios and make sure we include the words "frivolous lawsuit" in the documentation.

The scrolls thing was because Mojang tried to trademark "Scrolls", which would then have impacted Bethesda's use of the word in "The Elder Scrolls." Not that the Internet bothered to check what was going on before coming to a verdict, of course.

They settled that anyway and everyone's happy now.

At first I thought this was a joke/troll thread. Now I'm just scared for humanity.

Hahahaha, what a bunch of bullshit.
