Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Thought I'd make a post in case any of you folks haven't seen this.  Games for Windows is having a 1 day sale for Age of Empires III Complete (original game + expansion(s)).  The price of the game is $.10 (10 cents).  If you are even remotely curious about age of empires III and haven't picked it up, I think now might be a good time.

Deal ends today at 10PM PT

Thanks for the post I have been meaning to get the expansions for a long time and 10 cents is a bargain.

No prob - I had a buddy not from the US who indicated he couldn't get it in his region, so it might be a US only thing.  I purchased it and installed it without any issues.

I'll be checking this out when I get home from work.  If this is indicative of how Microsoft intends to compete with Steam, I'm happy to climb aboard.

Thanks for the heads up!  I'm not an RTS fan, but 10 cents is an amazing deal.

I can confirm that this doesn't work for people outside of the United States.  As it seems, GWL doesn't work in it's new format for Australian's at all.

Thanks ! It also works in Canada

thanks for the notices, a real deal... wonder what the actual angle is because they must be paying more for the credit card use then what the price was.

Well it got me to download their client, and 10 cents is about right. What a pain in the ass system. Why the hell do I need an xbox live account to play a pc game anyway?

Microsoft are tying all of their 'Live' sites together.  Xbox Live, Windows Live, etc.  It's a centralisation thing.  Handy for people like me who use a lot of their services - annoying as shit for everyone else.

Works in China with a British credit card!  What a bargain!

Looking forward to playing it...never played any of the AOE games before!

Well I kind of understand. It's not like they're the first one to do this, but the system acts like it will take a Windows Live ID which I already had, as in actually say you can sign into it and get going, then it bumps you to an Xbox Live account which pushes you to a gamertag which then tells you to restart the client to log in again. Bah. I had to restart the client twice to get the game to download and install. My sister was about to kill me for getting her into it because she encountered problems too. I had to remind her it was a game for a dime.

This sucks! Can't install the game!

"Due to the overwhelming success of the Age of Empires III sale, we have temporarily run out of keys to unlock the game. You can still buy the game at this amazing price and you will get/see a key in the next week. When new keys are added to the system you will be auto-assigned a key, there is no need to call support or take any other action from your end. We will post here on the forums when the keys are available and the next time you click 'View Game Keys' for the game you should be assigned one.

Thank you for your patience and we hope you enjoy the game."

Yeah, but for $.10, waiting a week really won't be that bad... quite lousy that some folks can't play immediately, though.  Not exactly the best introduction to their "new/relaunched/rebranded" service.

I've often wondered why Microsoft can't get a halfway decent product going on the games for windows side of things.  They've had about a week long sale going on with the age of empires deal being the only exceptional deal to come out of it... their games RARELY go on any sort of sale which means the only reason before to use the client was if you had to install the client for some other game.  I think tying all of their services together is a great idea though, but frankly, they will get a great spike in adoption rate because of this sale, and then NO ONE at Microsoft will consider doing anything to actually encourage ANYONE to keep their client installed by way of sales, etc.
