Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Feel free to jump in and discuss lol even if you aren't Demigod alumni

So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

@Karl

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm a big Taric fan... in fact... I'd go so far as to say he's fabulous.  I'll be playing him again when I actually have access to the support spells his guides suggest I get.  I finally read one really in depth guide that explained exactly why he was so discouraging to a level 7 player.  "The reason I can get away with buying ____ at this point is because I've stacked _____ T3 runes"

As for now, I think I'm going to main Urgot for a while against bots until I get a better grasp of things.  He's pretty appealing in that he's Ranged AD with some Tank and counter Carry mixed in so hopefully I'll be able to fit in most random games until I'm fit to play with the Cataract Crew.

Really appreciate your insight man!

jebus - so last game of the night, i break out the doctor.  I tear it up... like 16/2/20 or some such rot for kills/deaths/assists.  Downside, my team has insanely low map awareness.  Game ends with like 60-30 (kills v kills) as a loss for my team (team with 60 kills).  Even at times when I said I was on my way back to defend, someone on the team immediately after I port back to base (even after I indicate that I'm covering) says I'm omw and tps directly in... we even had folks with port as an ability and no one looks.  Oh well.  Sad loss.  Anyway, was fun crushing with mundo at least... just a stupid loss.  Pug life.

Back to the topic of AD/AP - is there a way to quickly tell what folks on your team are doing?  What about a way to tell what the enemies are doing?  I've been able to tell if someone is stacking AD just by how much damage I might be taking from auto attacks... that's probably not the best way to go about things.

you can look at someone stats by left clicking on them.

That works for enemies also?  I've seen that for teammates at least.

Yup. Its how I know those Critical spamers are stacking Phantom Dancers and Infinity Blades. Then I either cry or pray that me playing Malphite with Thornmail can tank them long enough for them to die.

Usually I dont. Hard to tank 1k Criticals.

You can look at your death report to see what sorta damage they're killing you with...

Seriously though, I think its just hardwired into the hero you pick... at least most of them I've played around with.  Right now the guy I'm learning has AD ranged attack, 2 AD abilities, and a nice shield with a AP bonus so theres really no choice in what I'm gonna put my money in.  Maybe some champs do have a choice though...

Maybe some champs do have a choice though...

I know akali (or something like that) has both AP and AD bonuses.  Not that I would know how to play a hybrid.

There are quite a few who could go both ways, Im currently trying to learn one. In the end though it seems you favor one or the other more.

In general the best thing to do is to press Tab and see what items they are using.  Once you get used to the items, you can tell at a glance how somebody is building their champ.  If you see Deathcap and the like, they are going AP.  If you see Infinity Edge, its an AD build.  If you see defensive items, its some kind of tank build.

This is actually important because some champs can be built different ways.  For example, Xin Zhao can either go AD Carry or tanky.  If you see a Xin building AD Carry items, he should be a top target in teamfights.  If you see Xin building tank items, he should not be a top target.

playing some tonight.

finally got to play some games with doggu tonight.  Was a bit of fun.  Starting to work on some of the new characters I've unlocked.  Last game of the night was a whooping for us.  Anyway, fun stuff and I'm happy to say I helped get doggu his first couple of wins.
