Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Feel free to jump in and discuss lol even if you aren't Demigod alumni

So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

played many fun games tonights.  Pugged 1 game and tore crap up as alistar.  Played really well as alistar in a few games with friends... played terribly in our last game though.  I love having clairvoyance in my build, but i hate not having ghost or a decent snare.  I actually did have a few pro kills though (flash, headbutt to team, stun).  Anyway, getting better with alistar.  And I'm up to 9 armor now pre game thanks to level 20 runes.  That goes a long way towards helping me out if I make a mistake.  ugh though... our last game was just cluster f after cluster f.

thanks for turning me onto this game. its exactly what i was looking for.

Support for Demigod nowadays consists entirely of moving this thread out of the forum?  Oh well...

I was listening in on Vent Pacov,  and it sounded like you weren't loving getting ganked... but don't worry, Big Daddy Thundercles is practicing up with Shen and is gonna be there to save your ass and help assist you in your future gankery endeavors.

So my stable of heroes is up to:

-Khassadin

-Shen

-Some lame ass support bitch who was on sale for cheap with a unicorn horn who will always be known as "Not Sedna"

Who else should I be looking to pick up?  Got support, carry/mage, tank/support/jungler... guess I should be looking for a good lane pusher next?

heh - hey - I moved this thread as I don't really want to detract from Demigod (and folks that hang about in the pc gaming forum can chime in as well.  )

re: characters - yeah, I'm not sure.  I think you'll need to take some time to learn how to jungle.  Its not as simple as just wandering in there and killing some creeps.  There are suggested routes, counter jungling, when to come out and gank, etc.  The big benefit to jungling is that one person in a lane gets extra exp while you level at roughly the same rate - and the added bonus of the other team not knowing where you are, giving you an edge on ganks if there are no wards, etc.

re: "not sedna" - sorka - I've heard guys in game complaining that she's been ruined by the last patch - and others complaining that she is OP.  I have no idea as I've only used her a couple times (and I'm not a huge fan of the required playstyle).

Pacov,

I dont know if this has been mentioned before, i dont want to read all of the posts right now (at work) but a couple of things.

Save your IP points for when you hit 20 and you can buy tier 3 runes.  I spent maybe 5k of ip on stuff and regretted it when i hit 20.  Granted 2k isnt hard to make up but i wish i wouldve saved the IP.  Also, there is currently a glitch in the game where you cant buy tier 3 runes until level 21 (although if you can equip them if you already own them)

The best deal is also to get the collectors pack from Best Buy.  It was $20, provides 20 hero's, $10 worth of RP, some junk, and a couple of runes.  We've certainly spent $20 on crappier games lol.

Thunder, i LOVED Soraka (the unicorn bitch) who, IMHO, was better than sedna:  a quick direct heal, a quick mana recharge spell then when cast on teammates replenished your own mana and when cast on an enemy - silenced them, a full team heal regardless of map location and a weak direct damage spell.  Too bad they nerfed her last week, luckily Deus Ex was released on the same day lol.

Anyways, im RagnarDanneskjol in LOL.  Add me if you want to type that much or let me know what your names are lol.

re: saving your ip for level 20 - yeah, dark told me to do that as well.  I probably should have listened, but I was more obsessed with unlocking characters etc.  I did save about 2k ip for when I hit 20 and have been unlocking runes nonstop since and after every few games.  The runes do make a huge difference, so I also suggest saving up like 10k ip for when you are level 20 (you will thank all of us when you hit level 20 and all of your characters are like 33% stronger).

oh also - getting a copy of the collectors edition is not quite that simple nowadays.  I went to best buy and target on lunch today and neither had it.  Also you can't get it online anywhere I've seen (unless you are a silly person and want a "used" copy from amazon or to spend $50 on it there as well).

Yeah, you should save your IP for tier 3 runes until you get a few full pages.  Jungling without proper runes is especially difficult - I dont recommend it since your jungle will just be too slow.  You should be hitting level 4 in the jungle at about 4 minutes to keep pace with lanes btw.  You might be a bit slower with a tank like Amumu, but it shouldnt be that much slower than that.

Typically its best to just play the free champs until you really know what you want.

And yes, Amumu is strong.  He is often banned in ranked because people really dont like playing against him.  But you really do need to be jungling with him since he sucks in lane.

And no, Soraka wasnt nerfed to whoever said that.  She was changed, and probably became stronger.  In fact, she has now gone to a common ban in ranked (at least where I am, which is at 1500+).  She does SUBSTANTIAL damage now, and is actually one of the stronger solo laners now.  She will shut down most AP carries in a solo lane, including typically strong ones like Morde.

But I would expect a substantial Soraka nerf soon since she is completely out of control if you know exactly how to play her.

Thanks for your reply, krazikarl - I find that very interesting, re: banned characters.  I'm not able to play ranked games (only level 20) - are those matches not blind pick then?  I'm just trying to figure out how you'd enforce a ban of amumu and sorka.  Also, I'm sure this is inappropriate but I'll ask anyway, are those characters honestly op?  Back in DG world we'd have people complaining about this character and that character being op and even refusing to let them be chosen in games - but they weren't op.  Players were just bad.

If its not blind pick, then do folks in the lobby just refuse to play if amumu is selected or what?  And in your opinion, are they just being goofs offs saying he is really that strong?  I've heard people complaining both on either side of sorka = op (some say crap, others say op).  Thanks!

edit - oh and my nerd update of the night:  I dropped 30 bucks and bought some rp tonight.  Then got whatever pack included nocturnal.  He is MUCH easier to jungle with like a pro, even starting on blue (granted, I have 10 armor pre-game now thx to runes).  Looking forward to trying out the other characters over the weekend, but I did a halfway decent jungle with him.  Bottom line, jungling before level 20 (and rune bonuses) = difficult, imo.  After that, I can generally try whatever I want without practicing any (before that, I'd try ANY character I wanted to jungle with in a human vs ai match just to make sure I wasn't going to die like a goof to blue or w/e).

I'd think that would be up your alley, really.  You get to be a sneaky bastard and try to gank over and over.

Ranked works pretty different from the normal blind pick.

The top slots are assigned captaincy of a sort, first thing done is they ban two characters each, then champs are selected by both teams in turns, with them visible to the opposing side, and from a single pool as well.  No duplicates.

Ranked would be bleeding wonderful if it weren't for an even higher number of assholes.  Just lost one this evening because a guy goes Alister, gives me shit all game for daring to have hexatech when I'm the AD carry(hybrid kog has utterly badass AD carry potential), and never knocks xin off me.  I managed the only even score by a wide margin, and the loser was still cussing me out for not knowing how to build kog after the game was over...

Get a team that doesn't feed, or give you endless shit when you're doing just fine, and it's wonderful.  I'm up to 12 games though, and half of them were populated by at least one twelve year old raving like a lunatic over stupid crap.  Perhaps if I ever play enough to make it out of ELO hell...

Can't get it online?  It's in the store under bundles, it's 3900 points though which is a little more than $20 but it gives you 1300 back, so it works out.  I've been really strongly considering grabbing that and the champions bundle.

Pacov:  Yeah, Shen can be a Jungler but its not ideal I know.  I've been reading some guides on the whole process but its kinda pointless when I'm so far behind before the game even starts... all those T3 Runes and the extra 23 Masteries people have make it an even more uphill battle.

I've been trying to play Taric but its very counter-intuitive.  I'm kinda a Tank and my auto attack gives me mana back and lowers my heal cooldown... but I'm just told to go hide in the bushes over and over so I feel like I might as well just be playing Not Sedna.  Also I think the Taric guides I'm reading assume I've got a bunch of Runes to keep my stun powered up which don't feel like its the case... just ask poor Rawwr.

Think I'm going to find me a jack of all trades hero and just play bots until I've got the juice to not be a complete liability to your guys team.
