Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Feel free to jump in and discuss lol even if you aren't Demigod alumni

So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch.

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped.

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

Super busy day at work.. smeh.  Anyway, played the majority of my games tonight with krazykarl and sarmis (+ crew).  Good times.  Tried out talon as he's one of the freebies this week.  The way I played him - he was ok early, weak mid, and a freaking boss late game.  Once I figured out how to maximize his ult, oh my - its like having akali's range with substantially more dmg (plus the benefit of being untargetable for a couple seconds).  My weakness has been trying to play like late game talon when its mid game.  Me = not solo ganking squat mid.

Anyway, more blah blah tomorrow.  Thanks for the games, karl!

mostly pugs today.  Another exciting busy day at work followed by double date with true blood - side note... true blood kinda sucked this season.  At least Dexter in a few weeks.

Anyway, I like when they release a new character... it means you get to destroy the other team if you are lucky enough to have them pick the new character and have your team not pick the new character.  She does look like fun, though.  I decided to use my ip to unlock a new character this time - got zil.  He's super annoying to fight against early - and decent mid/late if your team if smart enough to realize when they should dive, that you gave them a boost to gank with, etc.  I see alot of potential for him as a support, but its probably best if you are in vent.  Last game I played was just against comps (I usually try new characters vs ai 1st).  We lost... no idea how... pretty sure my team was terrible though.   I know the alistar was.  We'd be chasing the enemy down (alistar gets in front because I gave him the speed buff - and we had a total of 3 in pursuit).... 5 fugging times the alistar uses the speed buff to headbutt the enemy away from us... face palm.  He pointed out that there is a slight stun for doing that.  I pointed out that all he had to do was run in front and bat them back to us.  Anyway, there is HUGE potential for this character imo, just only on coordinated teams... think I could enjoy playing as him a bit.

A good Zil with even a simply "ok" lane partner will control a lane for his team in the early game. His time bombs are such a great tool for keeping most carries back.

No doubt - I played 1 more game after that with zil and we lit the AI up as appropriate (losing to the AI is pretty embarrassing).  I'll likely take zil for a spin sometime tonight in pvp.

You made it through Dexter's 5th season?  My hats off to you... It went from my favorite show to completely unwatchable for me.

Hey - shut it.  I'm only about 5 episodes deep into season 5 (the rest are saved on tivo)... and I'm hoping they don't wreck it.   hope its not as bad as you are making it sound.

It's all Julia Style's fault. Oh, and it's just a poor storyline in general.

Finally got to play some games with darkliath and pete again - its been a bit.  Our first game I was a fail host and set us against bots even though I wanted to pvp.  Anyway, zil did not go so well for me with out team comp in 2 diff games, so I switched to galieo with better results.  Dark led us to victory as morgana with some very well timed stuns, followed by the team ganking over and over.  Good stuff.  Been playing a bit with mccheesypants (someone I met through playing with sarmis) - really nice guy.

Anyway we all got on the dg community vent and yucked it up a bit.  My favorite vent discussion was when pete suggested a build to me for zil - he kept saying that I should start with catalyst.  So, I asked what part of that I should start with (health or mana)... to which peter responded that I needed to get catalyst.  This literally continued about 5 times until I gave up.    Ah pete...

Oh, and I decided to unlock poppy with my ip as she was the last of the sub 1350 ip characters for me to unlock.  Not sure when I'll get around to playing her.

I'll probably on a bit this weekend as my wifey will be out of town.

Like you, I main a lot with Akali, and mix it up from time to time with Jax, WW, Ashe, Nocturn, and Malphite. I definitely have a "type."

From my experience, Zil just takes a completely different skill-set from the one I evidently have. I just don't do very well, even in bot games, though I can't pin the issue down to one specific failing. That said, You do see some absolutely fantastic Zil players.

From your character set it seems you like to be up in front louist. That might be why you can't do well with a kite dependant char like zilean.

on Sep 16, 2011

My type I think is all about kiting and then chasing down for the gank... must be the TB player left in me.  Urgot is definitely my current favorite and almost certainly will remain so.  Going to have to try and find similar style champs in the other categories I think, but then again its almost completely pointless to choose your champ role based on your teammates choices at my level of play.

Miss Fortune, Ashe, Nocturne (jungle setup), and the new champ on my team so I pick Alistar for a support/tank compliment last game.  So of course our Ashe turns out to be too new to lane solo confidently (wish we had figured that out at champ selection) so they lane me in the middle solo against Caitlyn (who my beloved Urgot is meant to counter!) and it just sucked so bad.

Wish I didn't waste riot points on the pink Taric skin, cause I think I need to learn to play a kite supporter instead.

Fun games on Saturday.  Night for many fails on Sun.  Glad we won the last game of the night, but many of us (including me) were starting to get pissy.  Anyway, I think I'm level 26 or 27 now - almost there for ranked madness.  Might post more tomorrow if I think of it.

Played a bit with brokenstrong, jona, rawrr, mccheesy, zengod, karl - and quite a few with just me and maxsteele on friday.  Good fun anyway.  Wishing I was a better player than I am, though I am getting better each day anyway.  Night folks!

edit - props to jona, though - he tore things up as alistar in the 1v2 lane - gave our team (that was fing up left and right) to make a comeback in 1 game (and we did).  He did a great job!

caitlyn + 1 skin for her - less than 2 dollars... hmm.

I came across this on a deal site and I figured I'd give it a shot.  Basically, pc gamer magazine has a promo going where you get a code for a free caitlyn skin.  This code apparently unlocks caitlyn as well if you don't have her unlocked.  Anyway, you can buy the magazine if you can find it in a store - that runs $7.99 though.  You can (hopefully, but not confirmed by me yet) get a digital subscription online and then request the code that comes with the magazine.  There have been several reports saying that pc gamer has emailed out the code.  The subscription only costs like $1.89 per issue (you are only charged as the issues come out) and you can cancel after your first issue if you like.  I went through barnes and nobles and got it for the nook (I don't own a nook, but they have a pc application).

Anyway, I'll link you to the details if you are interested.  I only recommend using barnes and nobles, though, for the digital subscription.

Fingers crossed I get the code tomorrow.  2 bucks for caitlyn + a skin = solid deal.  Anyway, we see.

From what I've been reading on slickdeals, it sounds like the deal is dead now.  You can still likely pick up the physical edition of the magazine for $8.  It's still a good deal if you like the skin that comes with caitlyn anyway.
