Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

This thread has been closed by pacov - a new thread has been created here:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/383615

Why create this thread?

Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho.  It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are.  That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category.  So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out.  Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other.  So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.

Your part if you want to participate

Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today?  I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc).  I'm happy to have everyone's feedback.  I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight.  Perhaps we'll get games going.  You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.

You can nominate anyone you want.  To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list.  If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.

I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each.  Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.

Tier 1 Demigod Players:

Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well.  They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5.  These are players that do not cheat or desync games.  These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game.  Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.

Tier 2 Demigod Players:

These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same.  Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2).  The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.

Tier 3 Demigod Players:

A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...

Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:

These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat.  You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.

  • AlienWarrior - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter confirmed by pacov.  As of 1/5/2010, this player has 34 wins and 0 losses and is ladder ranked 34.  I played a game with him in a 1v1 with him as the host.  After confirming that the player spoke English, I asked him if he would let the stats count if I beat him (there is currently a simple exploit that enables any host in a 1v1 game to make the game disappear if they don't want the stats to be kept - Also note that this player plays almost exclusively 1v1 games).  The player did not respond to my question.  As I began to tear down both sides of the player's base, he used the stat exploit and the game vanished as a result.  The player used this exploit with about 10 minutes left in the game.  Based on his stats and skill level (read: not highly skilled), this player is clearly exploiting the stat system.
  • PrizmSmurf - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter and poor sport confirmed by pacov on 4/1/2010.  After losing in a 2v2 matchup, PrizmSmurf said "I hope you die a long slow death of cancer.  I mean it."  Then said, "Bet you are going to enjoy watching me desync."  Then, just before the citadel went down, desynced the game. Based on his stats, he clearly does not desync games on a regular basis, but wishing cancer on someone because they beat you in a game and then committing the one offense in demigod that can get you banned (saying you are desycning then desyncing) is a bit over the top.  I suggest you avoid him.

http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=126009

I always like to bring this replay up whenever I think of Ninki, to this day he won't admit that they lost because of both members, Ninki still think Heros is completely to blame. My half assed DA with experimental build was more then enough for a no hp wearer lol. Then ninki goes and makes comments like "This is why Temp shouldn't be in Tier 1" and "Post the replay and everyone will see your wrong and I'm right".

on Jun 04, 2010

I'm going to keep this short and sweet since I feel like my posts tend to be too long. Now you can't just post a replay and say, look look at how bad he is. You actually have to say something about what you believe the player did incorrectly because a lot of the times, it's the weaker player that costs the game, which I believe was the case in that game.

Your criticism was that I did not hp stack and instead got 2 mana helms - a plenor (1500G) and a scaled helm (550G) - based on the gold I had.

1) The 2 good Occulus in DG in my opinion are RAWRRRR and Magnus. Both prioritize mana helms before hp items, which is exactly what I did. I could've sold my demolishers for armour, but against a DA, demolishers tend to work quite nicely.

2) You said that most Occulus you see have around 7000hp, but just the other day I saw RAWRRRR's Occulus who had 4 kills and barely cracked 6000 until end-game. I was an Occulus that had to buy currency 1 and no kills, so I'm not sure where the gold for armour would come from.

3) You aimed for the DA during every gank, which was the correct DG to aim. After my partner dies in a gank, there is no way I myself would be able to take 2 DGs on. I wasn't the source of the problem - it was the DA. Why do I think the replay shows why he isn't Tier 1 - because like I've said before, he does not know how to adjust to the situation. He gets boots of speed and speed buffs against an Oak who has pent and surge, and a DA that has warp strike. He saves up 4k of gold for I'm not really sure what (creeps I'm guessing) when he should've sold his boots for armour, or even an orb of defiance - it wasn't that he was lacking gold because he had Heaven's Wrath.

4) During my whole conversation with you, you talked as if you did all the work, which is typically the way you talk all the time because you don't give credit to others where it's due. Your build worked because you had an Oak with pent - which has armour reduction. The problem wasn't exactly hp, but armour.

But hey, at least I didn't moan and cry about Oak's shield being OP, and that it should be impenetrable, which is exactly what you did when you lost to Janook. How come I don't hear you complaining about shield when you're the one reaping its benefits?

EDIT: Damn it that wasn't short and sweet at all.

1) Herp derp, of course you get Mana before hp, I'm saying after you get your mana, you stack HP, you didn't till the end.

2) YOU HAD 4.5k at the CITEDAL AND YOU GOT NOTHING.

3)Yeah and when we killed DA, you with no HP or Armor really helped things along against my Melee build that would easily be weakened by armor.

4)My build worked because you had no armor, the pen just made it worse for you, but of course you can't figure that out for yourself. Never did I also say I did all the work, I always say I was half assed in that match and that you were both to blame but as everyone knows, you don't listen.

Also you say that DA saved up 4k gold when he should of bought items (Not creeps), but you did the exact same thing! You saved up because you thought you had to buy creeps (Or so you told me) when you should of just got some hp and items! Yet nope, it's all DA's fault.

Typical Ninki.

on Jun 04, 2010

Did you not read what I said in #3 - what good would 1k or even 2k of hp do after my DA dies and you two both have 3k of hp left with a sigil waiting to be activated.

If I was being targeted then I would've gotten hp and armour, but I got citadel upgrades in hopes that it would save my DA from death.

on Jun 04, 2010

You just need more Fireballs.

on Jun 04, 2010

Boxxy_Koush

Typical Ninki.

Yes, and typical Ninki is always right.

Too bad I don't have the replay of Koush that 1 game playing a... what did he call it.. pure AOE build? I think it was Circle of Fire, Rain of Ice, Fire Nova and Ice Nova.

And then he goes on to blame me for my "bad" Erebus, because I bat swarmed in to another Erebus, which is exactly what Renz does so I guess that makes 2 bad Erebus.

on Jun 04, 2010

CITEDAL. That is all.

on Jun 04, 2010

Pure AoE build would be awesome to fight 1v1 against.

on Jun 04, 2010

You think someones oc comes even close to comparing to mine?  I'm insulted.

AND RAWR NO LESS.............

on Jun 04, 2010

Do we ever play together anymore? No. Do you message me on msn? No. I message you on msn and do you reply? No.

I don't even know why I still try from time to time. You said you'd lend me a TENT to sleep in if I came to visit, even though you'll have a whole resort. You wouldn't even sacrifice ONE room out of the 200 for me because you think it's so important to make money off of a poor student. It'll be POCKET CHANGE to you anyway.

on Jun 04, 2010

Woohooo, i made it to T1 (along our admired hero Paulie Carbone  ), now i can go on with my world domination plans...

I want to thank Shreddie and SplitShadow for their recent support in this thread, and Cow for starting me on my way to this Os... err T1 place .

Seriously though, i'm not quite sure i'm comfortable being rated "above" some T2 players or others who aren't listed here. I guess my ideal would be just one big list of good players you can safely play with, we all have our good and bad days/games after all. But hey, it's your list, so thank you anyway Pacov.

I still think this list is far from complete, Bellach, MyBones, ABornExile, Karebears definitely deserve a place in T2 at least, SethNB/Maukankousappo too (if i got to know which one is his true account)...

SplitShadow and Max (howboutnooooo) have played very solid games recently, they probably deserve a place here too...

Well, you get my point, we either try to keep a fairly updated list or abandon it completely, no point in having it set in stone for months.

I think its funny that every video you posted I am playing Reg, a char that cannot carry without good teamwork.  And I do love how you take the bait so easy and rush to your boyfriends defense rawwrr.  Sry I haven't saved any of the replays where Ive owned your oak rawwr (you not your teammates) but I will be sure to do so from now on, just incase I get more random games posted where I've lost due to lack of teamwork.

on Jun 04, 2010

OMG_pacov
anyone object to nom for tier1?

Not to be mean or rude I've liked Nom ever since he started playing,  but he is definitely tier 2 I have seen no evidence of an all around expert player.  It's mostly his consistency and ability to only play UB at a medium level that I have witnessed in my games..  Now I hear cow rave about him but I haven't heard this from any other players.  Or seen anything super special.

on Jun 04, 2010

If the honest qualification for tier 1 was beating a tier 1 at some point in demigod, tbh, at least 50% of the current T2s would be tier 1.  All it takes is a guy playing badly on the side the T1 player is at.  It's just quite hard sometimes getting a game where there isn't someone that plays dramatically badly.  E.g. today, me and Alex beat renz and Koush.  Our pug was better than theirs.  That's it.  Renz and Koush played great.

Later in the day, I'm on Koush's team.  We have a sub mid russian beast pug, they have a good oak player pug.  They win as our beast runs into death several times.  T1 or not, you can't stop other players playing bad

I'm happy for you Nom

I've made my peace with my love of TB standing in my way of T1
