Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

This thread has been closed by pacov - a new thread has been created here:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/383615

Why create this thread?

Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho.  It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are.  That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category.  So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out.  Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other.  So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.

Your part if you want to participate

Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today?  I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc).  I'm happy to have everyone's feedback.  I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight.  Perhaps we'll get games going.  You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.

You can nominate anyone you want.  To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list.  If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.

I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each.  Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.

Tier 1 Demigod Players:

Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well.  They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5.  These are players that do not cheat or desync games.  These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game.  Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.

Tier 2 Demigod Players:

These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same.  Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2).  The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.

Tier 3 Demigod Players:

A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...

Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:

These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat.  You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.

  • AlienWarrior - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter confirmed by pacov.  As of 1/5/2010, this player has 34 wins and 0 losses and is ladder ranked 34.  I played a game with him in a 1v1 with him as the host.  After confirming that the player spoke English, I asked him if he would let the stats count if I beat him (there is currently a simple exploit that enables any host in a 1v1 game to make the game disappear if they don't want the stats to be kept - Also note that this player plays almost exclusively 1v1 games).  The player did not respond to my question.  As I began to tear down both sides of the player's base, he used the stat exploit and the game vanished as a result.  The player used this exploit with about 10 minutes left in the game.  Based on his stats and skill level (read: not highly skilled), this player is clearly exploiting the stat system.
  • PrizmSmurf - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter and poor sport confirmed by pacov on 4/1/2010.  After losing in a 2v2 matchup, PrizmSmurf said "I hope you die a long slow death of cancer.  I mean it."  Then said, "Bet you are going to enjoy watching me desync."  Then, just before the citadel went down, desynced the game. Based on his stats, he clearly does not desync games on a regular basis, but wishing cancer on someone because they beat you in a game and then committing the one offense in demigod that can get you banned (saying you are desycning then desyncing) is a bit over the top.  I suggest you avoid him.

Some fresh Korean goodness just came in Jona from one of my contacts on the other side:

Guest Teacher RAWRRRR comes to pay a visit to Jona.

get bent and stop posting stupid replays.

on Jun 03, 2010

I've played with cragoirr before and I wouldn't say he's bad considering the number of games he has played. 3 Tier 1's should be able to make up for a weaker player, but that's just all in theory. I'd say that game was more balanced than the 2 Shane posted up.

Besides, it's more impressive to post replays where you were at a disadvantage (like the one RAWRRRR posted above) but came out winning anyway. I didn't even realize I had all these replays saved. I uploaded it to post in Pacov's Erebus build thread but thought it might be appropriate here too.

http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=127855

So here's 2 Tier 1's with 1 Beginner vs 1 Tier 1, 1 Tier 2, with 1 Beginner. Granted a bad Oak is worse than a bad TB, the team skill difference should make up for it.

Besides, it's not constructive to just say "you suck" "he sucks" "your ____ sucks." At least provide some sort of constructive feedback.

on Jun 03, 2010

no, quite simply because a bad single general is infinitely worse than a not as bad assassin.  He did not split his monks once that game, he could not shield to save his life, he would not port to save or kill someone even when he had a port, he would run up into 2 people and die AFTER beast / tb had run back because he did not tele in, he ran up into towers and died, etc etc etc.

OMFG JUST ACTUALLY WATCHED THE REPLAY

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

this guy... rofl.  No helm until lvl 10, but the better part... is that he has 4 ranks of morale for his clerics (also meaning he sold his monks for clerics lol).

I think it's pretty clearly posted above:  a great player can't guarantee a win if he has a weak teammate.  I would have preferred a 2v3 myself, we stood a better chance than hoping this guy would EVER do anything any less than average person would expect from an oak.

on Jun 03, 2010

^The same argument can be made about the TB. To think that it was clearly one-sided is just preposterous.

on Jun 03, 2010

pfft he didn't get 4 ranks of stats, which still would have been better than 4 ranks of morale with just clerics lol.

Yes, your tb sucked, but he did what he needed to better than the Oak.  You had bishops to turn the tide even more since you knew we would never have a monk with us lol.  It was clearly one-sided.

on Jun 03, 2010

lol @ morale with just priests.

Lol I love how you guys keep posting games involving a minimum of one retard, regardless of whose side said retard was on it just corrupts the game.  Meanwhile the worst player in every game I've posted is either Ninki or Jona.  Only you would post a replay of your Erebus build with an Oak like that on the other team Ninki.

Where? Can you please post a link here?

I'm also not here to defend Jona, because I know his regulus isn't good. But rather than insulting him why not provide him with constructive feedback, or are you simply not educated enough to do so?

If you want a replay where you were the worst player just check your tourney replays against RAWRRR and Kalel. You seem to pride yourself on having a good K/D ratio, but I wouldn't get any deaths either if I just ran back from every battle and left my teammate hanging.

And actually if your UB was better in the replay I posted you would've won, but instead you lost your own portal because you decided to stay and fight for ours. I was surprised you didn't win your tourney match but when I saw that you were UB instead of Orcun that pretty much explained everything. Your timing of everything is off, you don't push when you need to, you run away faster than anyone else and that pretty much explains your downfall. The only games where you seem to shine is when you can pick on weaker players who don't stack hp as a Regulus or DA, so you can just sneak in for kills. When it comes to actual Tier 1 matches with Tier 1 characters, you start to fall behind.

I also don't share monks after we get priests so once your team gets priests the monk advantage is gone. The whole game being lost due to the monk not being shared is just a terrible excuse. Tourney games have been won easily without monks. Our TB had 3.5k hp for almost the entire game, as a fire TB and UB I don't see how he could've caused any problems. Even the Oak with morale eventually started catching up and I couldn't take him 1 on 1 in the end. His skill build was out of order, but the game dragged on long enough to get it back in order.

GM-McShane87

Only you would post a replay of your Erebus build with an Oak like that on the other team Ninki.

And what do you call this,

http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=123565

I'm not going to post replays to try and show that someone sucked. That sort of public humiliation is just despicable in my opinion and I don't need to do things like that to make myself feel better. I'd rather post replays where I did better than I thought I would've done, or to showcase the talent of another player (which is usually done by someone else anyway).

Oh and I'm also pretty sure you consider Jaws8you a noob too, so there you have it, 2 weaker players on my team.

Here have a replay.

Me and two good pugs vs. Max, Jona, and Zebulas

on Jun 03, 2010

Lots of replays today! lol

I feel like I'm being targeted by a lot of this just for being in that first replay.

If so: Fuck you whoever did.

on Jun 03, 2010

Oh but Shane I will give you this one compliment that you refuse to accept since you seem to have some sort of personal vendetta against him, but if Jaybuddai stuck with this game, you and him would've been unbeatable in this tournament. Even Koush admits that you two were good, considering how little games you two played at the time. You two were the epitomy of teamwork - individually you weren't as strong but when you guys played together it was like magic. I will never forget those glorious days.
