Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

This thread has been closed by pacov - a new thread has been created here:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/383615

Why create this thread?

Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho.  It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are.  That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category.  So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out.  Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other.  So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.

Your part if you want to participate

Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today?  I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc).  I'm happy to have everyone's feedback.  I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight.  Perhaps we'll get games going.  You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.

You can nominate anyone you want.  To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list.  If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.

I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each.  Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.

Tier 1 Demigod Players:

Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well.  They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5.  These are players that do not cheat or desync games.  These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game.  Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.

Tier 2 Demigod Players:

These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same.  Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2).  The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.

Tier 3 Demigod Players:

A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...

Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:

These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat.  You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.

  • AlienWarrior - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter confirmed by pacov.  As of 1/5/2010, this player has 34 wins and 0 losses and is ladder ranked 34.  I played a game with him in a 1v1 with him as the host.  After confirming that the player spoke English, I asked him if he would let the stats count if I beat him (there is currently a simple exploit that enables any host in a 1v1 game to make the game disappear if they don't want the stats to be kept - Also note that this player plays almost exclusively 1v1 games).  The player did not respond to my question.  As I began to tear down both sides of the player's base, he used the stat exploit and the game vanished as a result.  The player used this exploit with about 10 minutes left in the game.  Based on his stats and skill level (read: not highly skilled), this player is clearly exploiting the stat system.
  • PrizmSmurf - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter and poor sport confirmed by pacov on 4/1/2010.  After losing in a 2v2 matchup, PrizmSmurf said "I hope you die a long slow death of cancer.  I mean it."  Then said, "Bet you are going to enjoy watching me desync."  Then, just before the citadel went down, desynced the game. Based on his stats, he clearly does not desync games on a regular basis, but wishing cancer on someone because they beat you in a game and then committing the one offense in demigod that can get you banned (saying you are desycning then desyncing) is a bit over the top.  I suggest you avoid him.

Pfft, I don't deserve to be on this list. I'm too rusty.

on Dec 29, 2009

Last tourney? There was a tourney?? You have to advertise better:P.

Anyway, I'd say everyone just form teams, standard rules, cataract 3vs3.

Then write those teams up, then make pools. Pick a date and play. Team doesnt show up? Disqualified(or maybe one other chance).

Slowly work up, and you have the best demigod team.

most of these people either pug exclusively or only run with one other person. Very, very few true-blue 3-man premade teams exist (true-blue meaning they play the majority of their games together, or at least, a significant portion).

on Dec 29, 2009

I'm a pugger myself, but I can easily muster some friends together to get a premade going.

P.S. Beat pyeek-> critical game state.

P.S. Beat pyeek-> critical game state.
Sounds about right.

on Dec 29, 2009

I feel no love I don't have a premade or a group of friends I play with. But I consider myself a good player. . . Most of that list is solid. But I must say I have faced a couple people who mysteriously Dysnced on citadel going down.

on Dec 29, 2009

Nice idea Without trying to sound narcisistic or anything, I think you should add me with REG too, since that's what most people are scared of when they play me

As far as suggesting goes, I'd add:

  • LifeKatana: Oak, Qot

  • ThatGuyYouLove: UB

  • Silvius: Erebus

  • CelMare: Sedna, Erebus

  • Esuzu

These are guys I would trust in my team everytime.

So basically everyone who plays Demigod are the best players.

Yeah, this list should really be paired down to 5-10 to have any real meaning. There's a lot of people on this list that I would definitely not play against a good premade with.

on Dec 29, 2009

If anyone doesn't think I qualify for this list come join my game, don't bring your friends (I am a pugger at heart) and I will balance the best I can. I love competition and I have been running into a lack of it lately.

True, right now the list looks more like decent players, rather than the best.

I think that in order to be considered for this list you need to know to play with all demigods at a decent/very good level, not just have one strong.

Maybe have another topic where people vote 5-10 from that list, which are only 'nominations'...

So far I'd pick iamkira, Bier, orcun, katana and ke5trel.

Obscenitor (meaning you) always evaded my games so I have no idea on his skills

on Dec 29, 2009

Archon, AFAIK,  the half the people in your list don't play all demigods at a decent/very high level.

I mean, no offense to Obs or anything but I don't think he plays a strong Sedna for example. Not because he has a bad skill or item build: just because he doesn't like her or her playstyle and thus doesn't play her (he's told this to me directly, this is why I know ). Same with me and Torch.

I know that Orcun is more than proficient with everyone, but I've never seen Kestrel play anyone other than Oak, Bier and Kira only play tier-1 demigods and katana plays Ereb/Oak/Sed. Obs mostly plays UB/Rook and I think a little bit of TB.

Hell, you're on this list. Do YOU play all demigods at a decent/very good level? If not, are you requesting that you be removed from this list?

I certainly agree with the sentiment you can't only be a one-demigod wonderman, you should be able to play at least 2 and preferably 3 extremely well. But very, very few people on that list even know how to play every demigod fantastically (partially because it takes a good 20 games just to get really comfortable with a new demigod), to no fault of their own: they just don't like that demigod so that they don't play him. And instead of winning with that demigod due to superior playing ability with that demigod they win due to superior teamplay on their part.

Eg, KALEL and I were playing All Random games. He got Sedna, who he has very little expierence with. He asked me what to buy and get as skills. Is KALEL an inexpierenced player? By no means he has more than 1000 games. Is KALEL a shitty player? No. He has excellent map awareness and he knows HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.

So, because of those things, we won. Because there is more to this game then knowing how to play every demigod extremely well. If KALEL and I had switched demigods around, we may have done better because we would have been matched with our more-preferred demigods and so we would have been more familiar with everything.

Rather, it's more just knowing all the builds and how to counter every demigod as a given few different demigods.

I do agree that this list has grown ... rather huge. There are a lot of names up there I either don't consider much of a threat or I've never heard of (not neccassarily a bad thing, they may be fantastic players just play at different times/hours than I do so I've never bumped into them). But looking up some of them well...yeah :-/

But, since this really is a "name your bestest friends" thread rather than "name the people who have beaten you in a game fair and square" (notice my nominations: Futile and Tsughes. And I didn't nominate irek or pacov for example. Not because I think they are bad players, just they are my friends and I shouldn't be the one to nominate them) the average quality of player is going to drop, of course.

That said, many players on that list ARE very talented. I'm not trying to challenge anyone here to 1v1s (which, btw, I hate with a passion so don't ask D:)
