Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Update 5/25/2017

  • This thread is all done.  I've lost interest in jibba jibbing here, but its been fun.  Thanks for all the memories.
  • I am streaming from time to time on twitch - generally just when I'm trying hard in ranked though.  If interested, you can check that out here:  https://www.twitch.tv/pacovdumptruck

Well, I started a thread back in Dec 2011 that’s seen a lot of activity (some 922,000 views over the course of a few years apparently...).  That thread had a good deal of tips/strategies/discussions about League of Legends from new and old players alike.  You can find the previous thread (now archived) here:  https://forums.joeuser.com/413863.  I think its time to start fresh with a new thread.

What’s this thread all about?
For those that followed the previous thread, the type of content you see here will be fairly consistent to what you are used to.  Please consider this a place to discuss LoL related content as you like.  I'll do the same and treat the thread as a blog as well where I talk about what’s going on with me in LoL.  Feel free to jump in and join the discussion if you like.

Quick background on me
I played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011, I started getting heavily involved in League of Legends, and folks from the community were kind enough to help me figure things out.  I play LoL most nights, stream, make videos and it’s my main gaming interest.

A couple things - 1st - an apology.  I had a really shitty day at work today and as a result was like super fuck this trolly (last game in particular).  Sorry fellas.  I'll be on good behavior next go round.

2nd and hopefully more interesting a topic - check this out - http://imgur.com/a/Hqd36

actually smeh... its dumb.  Spellsy keeps coming out with really so so content.  Check out the pic.  It's a small sample size showing mid lane item choices from worlds... but, of course, its highly influenced by team comp in some circumstances(which is not shown)... what caught my eye was tf rushing morellinomicon.. and I was like wut?  But its obv a situational pick and not really worth thinking about.

Anyway, I thought spellsy had better content but this is a couple times now where I've read up on his stuff and been like... this is wrong or this is pointless analysis that shows pretty much nothing... a tf build morellnomnom 1st.. in 1 game... at high level of play... I will now build this into all comps...

Huh?  You seemed to be in a good mood and it was fun playing with you.  Maybe I didn't care about you being trolly since compared to playing Captain Hindsight Obvious Negative Boy, you trying to snag kills as Support Zyra was simply amusing.  Hunny Badger might want to learn to call shots instead of just complaining about what people do after the decisions been made the whole game.

Ugh, sorry I'm just bitter cause I ran into a scripter on my last game of the night.

Max glass cannon pure scaling offense support Xerath.  Made pretty bad decisions.  Made up for it by having the APM and reaction times of a Korean robot. Perfect skillshot dodging and flawless chaining of his abilities and ults.  I had to use up Face and Locket shields before every teamfight to keep our carries alive since flashing would only dodge one ult charge cause wherever they flashed to would instantly light up.

I actually didn't know scripting existed for sure until this game.  His buddy joked around after about how his friend was so good "It almost was like he was reading Shakespeare."  Kinda bummed about this.

scripting is an epidemic with katarina players.

on Nov 14, 2014

yeah - bot of legends... check that out.  You would be very sad to learn just what is possible with scripting.  Like... really, really really sad if you even looked at a 10th of what I've seen.  scripts that auto farm/last hit, pull off perfect combos, dodge skill shots, flee... that's just some things... other things like the exploit that insta kills people, and so on.  And bots that just farm ip/xp.  Supposedly folks get banned for this crap, but who knows.  I report em when I encounter them.  On my previously low level account, you'd see farm bots a very high amount of the time.... like 1/4 games... maybe even 1 in 3.  I usually go so far as to open a support ticket with riot to report those people.  That said, all in all, I've currently encountered like 2-3 exploiters (crash game/insta kill) and 1-2 scripters that run crap like that xerath.

The real downside is that I honestly expect us to see more of an influx of this crap as it seems to be getting a bunch more attention on reddit... which means a bunch more people look into it, find the scripting sites, and appear.  I'm hoping we get a scripting report option end of game, but not sure how useful that would be due to false reports or just people getting outplayed, claiming its a script but having no idea.. Always a bit of that happens as well.

Anyway, if you run LSI, you have a replay of the game.  It's pretty quick and easy to open a support ticket (google riot support).  you provide info and at least it gets looked into after a few days.

Riot posts about the current exploit.

The exploit work on BOTK, tiamat, upgraded tia, can also give inifinte health potions, etc.  So, hopefully a hot fix in a comin...

Hi everyone,

We are aware of the exploit that some players have been using to instantly eliminate champions. We are actively working on the matter to have it resolved as soon as possible. In addition, all players found guilty of using this method will receive an appropriate sanction for using it.

There has been a fair amount of threads opened for that issue, and we will not be able to reply to each of them; we hope this post will help you see that we are working on it.

Note that as always, naming and shaming on the forums is not allowed.

Edit: No need to contact Player Support anymore as we have enough information about this and will not require individual reports. Thanks everyone!

Riot is currently hot fixing the exploit and handing out bans.  kudos.

Did someone come up with that hack just to get cheaters banned?

on Nov 15, 2014

heh... nope.  There are plenty of hacks still out there, but sometimes a few get popular and draw attention.  For instance, towards end of season this one suddenly starts to see more use as people try to cheat to rank up or just be putzes.  It's good when these things get such public attention.  For 1, this particular hack enabled many other hacks that were less noticeable... obv if I instant kill your whole team as nunu when you come near me, well... I'm cheating... but what if I just happen to have infinite fort pots or health potions.  Less noticeable but you still get an unfair advantage.  It's very good that this is patched up.

on Nov 15, 2014

Well... who cares about those hacks that can change the game when there are scripts out there?  Hacks change the game, can be patched up, and people can get banned.

Scripts though?  From what I've checked out so far, you can't really prove that someone is using one or more of the subtle ones and it's pretty much poisoned the idea of playing League for me.

Now I'm going to be paranoid every time I play that every good move I see the enemy perform is because they're scripting.  In fact I'm remembering right now a 5's Ranked game I played in where we matched up against Diamonds in the bot lane.  I was marveling at the Jinx's dodging ability... never hit one Thresh hook during the entire laning phase.  Actually, only one the whole game when someone was CC'd.  Now I'm a Thresh enthusiast so I don't face where I'm hooking, but still she zigged every time she needed to zig, and zagged every time she needed to zag.  I was super impressed at the time at the skill of Diamonds.

But now I wonder... I think I remember the Support having some weird super offensive scaling rune page, almost like they knew they knew they weren't going to lose any trades or get hit by any SS's so they were set to scale for their late game Support Pentakills.  At the time I just figured "I guess when you're Diamond playing against a Gold, you don't need defense cause your enemy doesn't live long enough to fight back."  I'm only bringing this up now because the Xerath scripter I played against had a very similar setup.

What sort of deviant gets off on playing with an unfair advantage?  People who want their account boosted, I understand.  People who want to use bots to make people think they're good?  Kinda strange.

Hope Riot's just biding their time until they can permaban a good chunk of these people...  I'm sad right now but that would make me pretty stoked.

Scripts like dodging skillshots would be reasonably easy to detect if Riot cared.  So I assume that such people would be caught reasonably quickly.  Perfect Smite scripts and the like are even easier to detect.

The Xerath I played against had 600 wins and a skin so it wasn't a total trash account that he had just gotten to 30.  Either he cheats infrequently enough to not get caught, just recently started scripting, or Riot either doesn't prioritize detecting this as much as they should or are helpless to.

I don't know nothing about nothing but it would seem to me that unless Riot has some way to find out one of these asshats has altered their program, how would they know?  All you would have to do is  make a 'Near Perfect Smite' script that RNG's how close you make the timing right? The dodging skillshot thing glitches out apparently somtimes but unless you get a replay of it and start a support ticket, so what?  Even then I'm sure they'd want ironclad proof before permabanning someone's account.

You see a replay of a Cass that kites her Twin Fangs instantly with zero animation, that's obvious.  But if they take it down a notch to 'Korean' level APM with tiny random differences between simulated keystrokes?

on Nov 15, 2014

Yeah, a really good hack isn't perfect on purpose.  Cheating inside the system, with non-perfect behavior leads to a less than obvious mechanism that can't be picked up just by checking the server logs for a specific set of impossible information.  This one is so bleeding obvious because it does something impossible, instead of just unlikely.  They literally just scan for successive activations of an item to catch them.  They probably automated the banning process entirely.  Some sort of automated check for a dodge script would lead to massive numbers of false positives if it had a random element to it.

somewhat boozed and distracted.  I think its bad to assume if you get whooped you are being scripted.  Honestly every report of scripters involves god awful players with god awful stats.  They get outplayed but dodge some ss.

.

Kinda goes against my personal experience the other night.  I'm 100% certain the enemy Xerath was scripting and carrying from Support without getting fed in lane.  YouTube videos you inspired me to check out don't leave any doubt that good players using scripts are not fun to play against and very very hard to beat.

So no, I would say not "every report of scripters" involves baddies trying to get out of Bronze by cheating.  This Xerath actually knew how to play, at least pretty well.  Wasn't amazing but he didn't have to be to carry hard from the Support position.  Wasn't even like his script enhanced laning phase was that dominant (though they definitely won it.  kinda can't be helped when he hit every SS and chained his CC perfectly EVERY time), but when mid game came on it was over.  Late game when he just completely took over, one of my team was quoted "No one else matters!  We need to kill the Xerath!!!  He's doing all their damage!"  That's what a decent player using scripts does in a game.  As Support.

Definitely agree that it's bad to assume that getting beat by someone with good mechanics means I was scripted against.  That's why I'm bothered so much, is because you can't really know for sure what's up.  Those Diamonds I was talking about were most likely just way better players, but not knowing for sure now is sucky.

on Nov 16, 2014

Just checked the Xerath's LoLKing.

Last 10 games he played was as Support Xerath, won 9 of the 10 with god awful stats a massive KDA.  Only 10/10/23 in the game I played against him so yay for my team?  Oh wait, they had a level 21 Yi and a beginner Wu Kong top and still beat us.

Oh, and scripting apparently has been pretty good for him in Ranked.  Diamond V.
