Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Update 5/25/2017

  • This thread is all done.  I've lost interest in jibba jibbing here, but its been fun.  Thanks for all the memories.
  • I am streaming from time to time on twitch - generally just when I'm trying hard in ranked though.  If interested, you can check that out here:  https://www.twitch.tv/pacovdumptruck

Well, I started a thread back in Dec 2011 that’s seen a lot of activity (some 922,000 views over the course of a few years apparently...).  That thread had a good deal of tips/strategies/discussions about League of Legends from new and old players alike.  You can find the previous thread (now archived) here:  https://forums.joeuser.com/413863.  I think its time to start fresh with a new thread.

What’s this thread all about?
For those that followed the previous thread, the type of content you see here will be fairly consistent to what you are used to.  Please consider this a place to discuss LoL related content as you like.  I'll do the same and treat the thread as a blog as well where I talk about what’s going on with me in LoL.  Feel free to jump in and join the discussion if you like.

Quick background on me
I played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011, I started getting heavily involved in League of Legends, and folks from the community were kind enough to help me figure things out.  I play LoL most nights, stream, make videos and it’s my main gaming interest.

Karl/bryff 3's:

Played 3 games won 1 and lost 2. We kind of took a game off on the last one though playing bad champions. Bryff wants to try out ahri on TT and it will probably work well.

Solo queue: Played some solo queue last night played 1 as ziggs and 2 as xerath. I had really good games but didn't win 1 of them. Xerath seems really strong after you get to morellos + void or death cap. Awesome late game team fighting. Xerath pairs well with Lissandra top since her ulti can hold some one in place for a full xerath ult. Liss and I were able to pull it off a few times but the game went to long in one of them where everyone had a banshees vail and several people had Gaurdian Angels. It was very hard to do any damage at that point despite having 800+ AP and full build. I would hit trist with a spell or two and two autos later she was full health from life steal :/. Oh well 1 win from promos again.

My cable modem took a dump last night.  Resulted in  few minutes of connectivity, followed by outage.. repeat.  Replaced already today so I'm back in business.

so, while the following is nidalee jung level 3 dragon cheese, it does show how to properly use her passive in the jungle.  Now, and riot has made it clear that this is intentional, if you hit a jungle creep with your q or e (fi that's the trap...), you SNARE camps.  This means you can more effectively kite and take less damage.  The vid quickly shows how to utilize this, so worth a quick watch.  It also includes the level 3 drag cheese, but w/e

Played only ranked tonight.  Ended kind of in the same place... even though I went 3/2.  Feels like lp gains just went a little bit wonkey (ala clamping... at an elo where that should not happen).

Clamping is what happened to people when they were approaching their promo games and started getting 0-2 LP a win.  They've done away with that mostly.  I don't know where actual clamping still occurs but I think it's between Diamond and Challenger.  Maybe when approaching Diamond?  But not Platinum V, I'm pretty sure of that.

The fluctuations on LP gain/loss that the system uses to keep your MMR near your LP occur down in Bronze.  If this is your first time experiencing LP fluctuation, I'll explain what's going on:

Back when you lost enough to become concerned about getting demoted, your MMR sunk to a Gold MMR level and you started playing against Gold opponents even though you were still Platinum.  When you started winning again, the system wasn't going to give you zero LP every win until you got back to a Platinum MMR because that would of been extremely frustrating for you.  Remember how freaked out you were?  Imagine if your wins didn't give you any LP until you got a Plat MMR again.

So in those wins against Gold players as you were getting back on track, you got kind of an LP loan if you will.  You've kept winning mostly so you're playing against Plats again and getting close to enough LP for your Platinum IV promos... but you're MMR hasn't fully caught up to your LP.  In a way you're paying off the loan you took out when you were losing games and didn't have any LP to lose.

yeah, but its wierd.  I was still getting big lp gains even after I was down to zero LP and concerned.  Like 20-25 per game... not really sure.  Saw a few posts on reddit this am about people thinking things are a little out of whack.

hmm.... mayhaps.

Its not clamping, but a lot of people on reddit are claiming that something crazy happened with lp gains over the last day or so.  Not sure what happened.

Prefacing this discussion with: "the current division system is a REWARD tier and not a RATING tier". MMR is your rating and determines matchmaking and "win predictions". LP is a reward you get for winning games, and is a function of your MMR versus your current tier.

"Hard" clamping only occurs from Diamond I -> Master, because the system will not allow you to hit 100 LP until you have the met the minimum MMR threshold of Master Tier.

As Thunder described, a similar phenomenon can happen when your MMR is below your current tier (eg, when you get stuck in a 0 LP Gold V for 100 games). But it's not clamping, you're just being rewarded less for winning games that are at an MMR level below your current tier.

That said, there is a "witchcraft" LP thread on Reddit that claims that somehow the entire Elo system itself folded into nothingness.

i don't completely believe in the speculation of Reddit on invisible numbers that they have no access to... but if they are correct, my guess is that Riot re-synced up the division-tier MMRs with the soft reset. Since this reset was apparently very soft and that means that Eloflation was not completely negated, which means that every tier above Silver II had a 5-10 MMR increase. All the way up to Plat IV... probably results in a 100-150 MMR increase, which is similar to being "plunged" to Gold II. It'll probably work itself out after 10-20 games.

And maybe it's just out of whack.  I've heard stories about duo queuers getting huge differences in how much LP they win and lose, but you and Hunny should be pretty close in MMR/LP so I don't know if that would do it.

My gut tells me there would be a lot more complaints if they did a resync for everybody.  But there seem to be enough complaints that something happened.  My guess is that Riot did some correction for some subset of people.  Maybe they applied some correction for heavy duo queuers?  Pacov/hunny duo enough that pacov might be seeing that.

EDIT: Well, I was kind of right - the subset was based on rank, not duo queue though.  The reddit thread has been updated with a statement from Riot admitting a bug.  People from Gold II to Diamond V could experience a bug that would cause more difficult LP gains.

I don't see anything from Riot saying that you get your "lost" LP back, so if you played games during that gamespan you probably just lost out on some LP.  Haha.

ah - i knew something was a bit out of whack but couldn't quite figure it out. I checked reddit this morning after thinking something was up.  After karl noting someone at riot chimmed on the thread, I looked it back up.

I see thunder is playing some ranked today.  Good luck!

til/remembered... if you playing a dumbarse top like quinn against a wu and your jungler decides to make a balls deep play and you go support him... and you both die as a result when mid and top collapse... well.. you my friend are a dumbass. Let your jungler be dumb and live... or completely lose the lane by trying to help.  You cannot make a big play with squish vs a bruiser and lose... goodbye lane.  You now have made an iffy top lane pick and turned into split pushing at best trash.

i think something is up with poachers knife... think i'm getting quite a bit more gold than what it indicates... like dbl...

Check reddit or anything to confirm your suspicions?

Trying to get on the Nidalee Freelo train. Its been rough getting back into playing nid. I now know why most nids roam as soon as possible now, farming with her when playing her as an AP champ is very hard. Her auto does almost no damage. Spears are almost better than they used to be since you can fit them through tighter windows. Cougar form is so so so strong if you mark some one.

I think playing her jungle might be the way to go instead of mid. It is easier to farm jungle creeps than last hitting. Her mobility gives her strong presence in all lanes or invading the enemy jungler. If you land a spear on the enemy jungler while hes trying to do a camp he pretty much has to leave immediately or hes dead. I might have to start jungling again haha.

Did I mention its mating season?
