Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

This thread has been closed by pacov - a new thread has been created here:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/383615

Why create this thread?

Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho.  It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are.  That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category.  So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out.  Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other.  So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.

Your part if you want to participate

Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today?  I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc).  I'm happy to have everyone's feedback.  I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight.  Perhaps we'll get games going.  You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.

You can nominate anyone you want.  To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list.  If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.

I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each.  Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.

Tier 1 Demigod Players:

Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well.  They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5.  These are players that do not cheat or desync games.  These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game.  Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.

Tier 2 Demigod Players:

These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same.  Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2).  The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.

Tier 3 Demigod Players:

A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...

Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:

These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat.  You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.

  • AlienWarrior - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter confirmed by pacov.  As of 1/5/2010, this player has 34 wins and 0 losses and is ladder ranked 34.  I played a game with him in a 1v1 with him as the host.  After confirming that the player spoke English, I asked him if he would let the stats count if I beat him (there is currently a simple exploit that enables any host in a 1v1 game to make the game disappear if they don't want the stats to be kept - Also note that this player plays almost exclusively 1v1 games).  The player did not respond to my question.  As I began to tear down both sides of the player's base, he used the stat exploit and the game vanished as a result.  The player used this exploit with about 10 minutes left in the game.  Based on his stats and skill level (read: not highly skilled), this player is clearly exploiting the stat system.
  • PrizmSmurf - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter and poor sport confirmed by pacov on 4/1/2010.  After losing in a 2v2 matchup, PrizmSmurf said "I hope you die a long slow death of cancer.  I mean it."  Then said, "Bet you are going to enjoy watching me desync."  Then, just before the citadel went down, desynced the game. Based on his stats, he clearly does not desync games on a regular basis, but wishing cancer on someone because they beat you in a game and then committing the one offense in demigod that can get you banned (saying you are desycning then desyncing) is a bit over the top.  I suggest you avoid him.

Well, a while ago I got a replay of your minion oak and copied it, with a few changes of course.

You really aren't into the whole "team" thing are you? >>

umm no, esp since all of my teamates went to the other lane for about half the game....

Bah, I keep trying to get into Pacov's channel, but I cant guess the password!

on Jan 21, 2010

Here's a replay from a 5v5 game I was in tonight.  It was people from my little clan vs me and some pugs in a 5v5.  My team ended up losing in the end, but this is easily one of my better reg games.  By about 10 minutes in, it should be very clear what I'm talking about.

And for those of you holding your breath, Teseer made it into my channel

Pacov: I find it hard to believe Obscenitor is a stats exploiter. Maybe just a series of unfortunate coincidences?

No.  Not really.

Obs does the XP trick all the time :-/

It is true.  Let's just say there is a very specific reason that some people leave the game just as or slighlty before the citadel is going down.  Something magical related to experience.  Its an exploit.  Its not quite as obnoxious as a desync or making the game vanish, but this is another stat exploit that exists.  You'll notice if you review most of his losses (80% or so based on a quick sample), you'll see 0 favor points, indicating a disconnect before the game ends.  As I really don't put all that much stock in stats or the ladder anymore, I really don't care all that much, but the description for tier 1 indicates that "These are players that do not cheat or desync games."  A stat exploit is a cheat, hence no tier 1.  I doubt he's going to care all that much though.  Tis just a silly list.

Janook

Archon, I only saw 2 games of you.  You're solid but have such a terrible attitude that I would never want to point to you and say "that's one of our best."  Hence why I say stay away from tier 1.  Maybe you were just in a bad mood?

If you are reffering to the 2v3 match - yes, I was in a bad mood and I explained you why (see another explanation bellow); Besides, It was not me who started it, but omicron - yet you didn't complain about his (even worse) atitude and nominated him without reservations, just because he is your friend/you know him better.

In any regards, this list isn't about attiudes but skill. And 2 games (I only recall 1, which wasn't even a game), are not enough to make an opinion about someone

PS: For those who are interested, here's the short story:

one of my teammates  (won't name) leaves the game because he wants to lane left alone and Janook doesn't want to let him do it solo (lame reason to leave don't you think?). So after minute 5, I am left with Janook.

Omicron is in the opposite team

After 3-4 minutes they gank us 3v2 and kill us both, at which moment Omicron boasts on chat how good his is. Now that's easily the most idiotic thing you can do right? Saying how good you are cause you can win 3v2??

Therefore I tell him he is not that good as he thinks and he should take a 2v2 challenge if he wants to prove anything.

Conclusion: from all this event it is MY attitude which sucked the most? I hardly believe so.

FutileEmotion and tshughes are definetely not active anymore - we all play LoL these days.  Mostly because of the reason we wouldn't be T1 anyways - we played all of our games together (until school got too busy for me and they started doing 2v2's).  Thus at least Futile and I would be disqualied on the base that we would only be in on the strength of our team.  That being said, tshughes is a beast who would be on that list anyways.  However, back when we did play we definetly could play every DG but QoT with pretty much any build we wanted - we played a ton of random characters and switching stuff up.  Anyone on the T1 list should easily be able to play any DG to at least 90% of their capability.  (Note that we never bothered with QoT because a) she was no fun and she was horridly gimped and useless.)

Sakke and Ersaconti definetly are a great 2v2 team, as of when I played with them oh so many moons ago, but they were absolutely horrid when they tried mixing things up.  The only time they ever had any success (at least when tshughes and I played them) is when they went sedna/oak with speed and just abused the crap out of the Oak's shield and teleport cheese.  They were definetly very very good in a 2v2 cataract matchup with one or two DG's though.

Man, DG is a great game, but the three of us got sick of waiting an hour+ to play a game, and when we'd get a premade vs premade match, 70% of the time the loss would go to whoever dropped first.  And none of us had much interest in playing on a team without the others *shrug*.

General Gonzo

Howboutnooo and I were really pissing about this entire game tbh ^^  I spent 2 minutes in the middle to get a mug of tea and spent most of the match cracking jokes.  Neither of us were playing seriously in the slightest

FFS Max (howboutnooo), was playing an autoattack reg build...that's the level we are talking about here   It's a build that only works against bad players...

I mucked about the entire first half of the game.  Both of us were pretty fed up of DG by this point, I think we're playing Supreme Commander tonight.  I've started playing LoL now as well (my name is shred demon on that too, i'm on the american and europe servers so add me if you like).  Twitch is great fun .  He's like a cross between UB and Reg

I never said GG, but our noob TB did though because he was really bad

Okay different topic:

I think it's a lot of Americans on this list tbh.  I don't see a lot of them going about that often (I live in the UK).

I vote morpheas for Tier 1.  He is a great player.

Morpheas beat me when I was noob and still beats me now i'm good

Sstarkiller, I want to vote him tier 1 (well...he is a buddy ),  but I think he's like tier 1.5

Also, Inerz and Mooks should be on the list, they are both really good players.

Cheers

Shreddies

I came up with a solution to the long waits anyway, but it does require a little flexability.  You do have to be willing to mix things up and not always play with a premade.  I know, I know... for instance, if I had a 3 man team on and it seemed pretty obvious we were going to crush, I'd swap myself or someone else from my pre to the other team and pick up a pug.  I feel like you should be able to play the game with your buds all the time, but the bottom line is that if the people I require to play against in demigod hate premades, then I need to be flexible so that those people will play with/against me.  Even if it means I decrease my chances of winning.  As I do this more often and play with more and more people, I also find that there are less objections to me playing with my premade - so long as I continue to be willing to mix things up as needed.

I know what you mean regarding how things were - the community manged to kill off quite a few premade teams. I remember the 45 minute lobbies as well.  The only options were to quit DG, wait it out wasting alot of time playing lobbygod, or adapt, which is what I've done.

awuffleablehedgie
iamKira has either had just a REALLY bad last few games that I've played with him or just majorly underestimates the people he plays against, I don't feel threatened by him at all.

Obs does the XP trick all the time :-/

"

Always funny that people think everyone copies their builds. I had this build long long before even minion builds became popular again. Yes I don't take shield which imho is way overrated and instead get minions. But trousersnake didnt die because he was unsupported or anything, he just didnt use sigils for most of the game (and another thing is that Pacov made 3 kill trades too, so it's rather questionable if that won his team the game, maybe skill differences and character choices had a little bit more to do with it and I'm sure an assasin oak would have be worse for the team). Again, I can't say if trousersnake is a bad player for that, I wholly believe he had a bad day and is much much better normally.

Anyway while I think it's wrong of Archon to get so mad at everyone for saying he's a tier II(which again is imho way more offensive than the list Pacov had at first), and I understand Janook for his dislike of Archon Saar in being so arrogant-because let's not kid ourselves, he is-  I'd like to add that the game he played with janook was totally imbalanced which due to a particularry leaver was a 2vs3. However this says almost nothing about someones skill.

He doesn't stat exploit. That's not how it works and the fact you can see his losses on the stats page is already a big indication of that. Leaving a game when you're going to lose does not automatically mean you're a stat exploiter.

I'd like someone to point out once where he left a game and it then didn't count even though they were winning...

I think I treat kill trades a little differently than most and am generally a more aggressive player than most as well.  But in that game, I was surely being a little over the top with it.  It takes people a little while to realize that they are up against a nut that will chase, even if it means death.  But your team didn't exactly capitalize on my haphazard style of play that game.  I'd always get my kill off, then your team would react instead of proactively trying to keep me off rook.  So, by about silly kill trade 2, you had to realize I was nuts and probably should have been all over me the second as went to rook.  And your right - after the 1st 1-2 kills, trouser surely should have picked up a sigil.  You guys didn't leave him alone, per se, but no one really compensated for what I was doing to him.  So, while I wouldn't necessarily recommend an assassin oak, I'd have picked up a level of shield and guarded him a bit more once I saw there was a crazy erb chasing.  All you needed to do was get 1 kill on me where I didn't get trouser and boom, I'm a wreckless player that gave your team the lead.  We surely didn't win that game based on kill swaps, though.  But once I started getting kills on him without the kills swaps - that made a difference.

kingslet - I agree that leaving a game you are going to lose doens't make you a stat exploiter.  Calling everyone an exploiter if they quit a game they can't win is idiotic.  So, I hope you understand that's not what I'm on about.

To quote what you quoted me saying:

Something magical related to experience. Its an exploit. Its not quite as obnoxious as a desync or making the game vanish, but this is another stat exploit that exists.

He's not making games vanish,  he's not desyncing games.  But he is using an exploit associated with experience.

on Jan 21, 2010

I love theorycrafting as much as you do, but there's no point in arguing this. Both our teams were rife with Pubbers or bad characters and we lacked the straight damage to actually kill you, indeed just batting away pretty much defeast a gank by reg/oak/rook(and the OC had no feel for warping). Trousersnake actually said he would get sigils after the 2nd the death so I thought he wouldnt die so easily anymore.

Are you on soon? (how many hours, I have no clue of timezones).

I most likely won't be on today at all actually.  its 2:03PM EST at the time of this point.  I'd normally be online about 4-5 hours from now.  I will be playing some on Friday
