Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

This thread has been closed by pacov - a new thread has been created here:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/383615

Why create this thread?

Simply stated, the ladder is generally not the best depiction of skill, imho.  It GENERALLY tracks who plays the game the most and/or who acts like a jerk by cheating instead of who the most talented players are.  That's not to say that everyone high up in the ladder falls into this category.  So, if I were to put together my own ladder that indicated skill, I wonder how things would shake out.  Obvious hurdles being that many highly skilled individuals don't play each other.  So, this requires either the people that don't play together to play more together (my personal choice) or I have to rely from feedback from other players.

Your part if you want to participate

Who do you guys think are the best players in demigod today?  I understand that its a team game, but individual players do tend to stand out (and I also know that one great player can't guarantee a win if he has weak teammates, etc).  I'm happy to have everyone's feedback.  I'm not looking for people to jump in and flame. Just call out who you think is great or who you'd like to see fight.  Perhaps we'll get games going.  You want to flame and talk crap, your post will probably end up deleted.

You can nominate anyone you want.  To keep this from being a list of who likes who, several individuals that are generally considered excellent at the game will moderate the list.  If those individuals generally agree, a player can be removed or promoted in the list.

I've decided on 4 categories of players and have provided descriptions of each.  Please recommend players along with the category you feel they fit in.

Tier 1 Demigod Players:

Realistically, its my belief that there are 10-30 players in this game that are tier 1 DG players (the best). Those players shine as individuals, generally with a wide variety of characters and do not depend on a specific team or teammate to do well.  They can play exceptionally in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5.  These are players that do not cheat or desync games.  These are the people that you want on your team or you want to play against because you know you will get a good game.  Any player in this list or any other should currently be an active player.

Tier 2 Demigod Players:

These are players that don't quite currently fit into highest level of players, but are good players all the same.  Perhaps they require a specific team or can only do well in specific types of games (1v1, 2v2).  The bottom line is that they aren't quite as polished or versatile as the highest level players.

Tier 3 Demigod Players:

A third group (or list) would be everyone else. No need to list individuals...

Demigod Players that Should Be Avoided:

These would be specific individuals that clearly (and I mean clearly) cheat.  You don't get on this list unless I (pacov) am VERY convinced that you belong here.

  • AlienWarrior - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter confirmed by pacov.  As of 1/5/2010, this player has 34 wins and 0 losses and is ladder ranked 34.  I played a game with him in a 1v1 with him as the host.  After confirming that the player spoke English, I asked him if he would let the stats count if I beat him (there is currently a simple exploit that enables any host in a 1v1 game to make the game disappear if they don't want the stats to be kept - Also note that this player plays almost exclusively 1v1 games).  The player did not respond to my question.  As I began to tear down both sides of the player's base, he used the stat exploit and the game vanished as a result.  The player used this exploit with about 10 minutes left in the game.  Based on his stats and skill level (read: not highly skilled), this player is clearly exploiting the stat system.
  • PrizmSmurf - This player should be avoided.  Stat exploiter and poor sport confirmed by pacov on 4/1/2010.  After losing in a 2v2 matchup, PrizmSmurf said "I hope you die a long slow death of cancer.  I mean it."  Then said, "Bet you are going to enjoy watching me desync."  Then, just before the citadel went down, desynced the game. Based on his stats, he clearly does not desync games on a regular basis, but wishing cancer on someone because they beat you in a game and then committing the one offense in demigod that can get you banned (saying you are desycning then desyncing) is a bit over the top.  I suggest you avoid him.

as for McShane, he hasn't had enough games with me to have a serious opinion on me. I once had a DA build in his game with no mana helm, that 1 action branded me a noob in his mind. even though we have won tough games together. i'm sorry that i don't research on the internet what the best builds are and copy what everyone else is doing, and have to tweak mine from time to time. that DA build has unbreakable boots, natures reckoning, and all plus skills. ends up being alot of mana, and enough mp regen. and if you still think i am a noob, ask your clans founder, omincronlyrea. and how many times we smacked others around throughout epoch2. i was offered to be its second member.

Whatever McShane has with you is between you two, but Omicron is not our clans founder. He's the founder of gL.

Hahaha, so fucking true.

^It's such a genuine sigh. I actually don't know anyone that can sigh as well as him.

yea i just remembered that, sorry.

No need to apologize. Oh but what you can do is come back on vent

I personally do miss you, although we don't really know each other... but I still do miss seeing your name.

PS. Pacov, if I can get half the Tier 1's to vouch for Mith to be in Tier 1, would that work? I'll just get confirmation from Shane, Orcun, magnus, Janook, renz, and me. Even though cow hates him, I'm sure even he would admit that mith should be up there.

mad at the fact that a tier 1 player can't simply tell his HP partner to get back to the HP flag. and it was more like being frantic too the both of you.

I don't really understand what you are saying here.  You got angry when I wouldn't come to the mana flag after getting mid when I was heading to the HP flag.  I explained my reasoning why i think what you had in mind was a bad idea.

you shielded me once and it was unnecessary. and i had no intention of pushing HP with you, agreeing with you on the fact that 2 of them could kill me with ease at level 3. It was tactical4 that made the mistake of going mana, while i was trying to take xp.

Again - I'm not sure what you are referring to.  We were on forces of dark.  You were trying to get me to push the MANA flag in the situation I described.  Not the HP flag.

when you know, as well as many other experienced players know, that a reg is the logical choice for currency

Oh yes, I know that.  But the reg on my team didn't have enough money when we hit level 3 for some reason.  And, again referring to events that you don't seem to remember, I asked who's buying currency at level 2.  We hit level 3, I said guess I'll need to get it.  30 seconds go by and I buy currency when I see you having around 1100 gold.  You could have replied then.  And I'll even give you the benefit of the doubt and say you were just a little short.  I definitely asked who's buying in chat.  You said nothing.  I definitely indicated that i would when no one replied.  Of course me spending money on myself would have helped.  Try not to miss the fact that we were likely going to lose the game going in.  You realized that, right?

you type like a noob. and NEED vent. You rely on it, and it is a flaw you brought into the game as well.

I disagree. Anytime I pug, I don't use vent.  I do quite well without my pals.  I think you might need vent - probably would have responded to me asking in game who's buying currency.

you didnt even ask for the snipe, like you forgot you had a reg on your team

Good regs need you to tell them to snipe apparently?

your non stop complainging is what set me off

2 times in the game about flags.  The rest of the complaining belonged to you.  And you did quite a bit of it.

thats my thought process, and i flipped on jaws just as i did pacov. I am tired of hearing someone cry over a game when i am trying to have fun, people that i have played with for months become babies over 1 simple choice.

Then don't do it yourself.  I bought currency, after all.

I consider myself tier 1, thanks. and i don't care if i am not on your 'list'. i have played many games with you lag wars crew, and have many occasions were i wonder just what the hell you guys were doing, but did i say anything???..lol..no...i get told i dont talk enough. but i dont ream someones choice of direction out, i read off of it, i follow their lead, and be their teammate.

Well - we do disagree on the tier 1 status.  But your are certainly right in not caring if you are on the list.  Its just a list and my opinion of your play style is not meant to be offensive.

Xynth - you make excellent points about the game simply being a game that should be played just to have fun.  Some of us take the game much more seriously than we should.  No one should get bitched out, as I have done in the past, simply because they make a decision I don't agree with. It's quite rude and childish. I don't believe I bitched you out a single time in the game.  You explained why you had such a negative reaction - fair enough.  And you are generally a great teammate.  I still won't agree with some of your tactical decisions and you won't agree with some of mine.

and freaking out on people will only cost you their friendship.

Exactly.  I learned that lesson already.  I assume you don't really want to be in the same boat, though.

Even though cow hates him, I'm sure even he would admit that mith should be up there.

hmm... guess how many tier 1's agree with me...

I'm really the only one that needs convincing at this point.  I know he's in your clan and you guys will go to bat for him.  Fair enough there, but what's he got?  He plays a great assassin style oak in 2v2.  What else am I missing?  I'm sure must be acting very shortsighted on this cause either he's great and I'm missing it or he's not and you guys are just backing him up.  I'm quite happy to move him up to tier 1... hmmm... seems like we always get to this part of the conversation... I'll try to be on a bunch tonight and tomorrow... mayhaps we can bottom this out quickly.  On the pro side, I do consider him to be great in 2v2 as an oak like i said.

I like how GM has majority rule of deciding who is on Tier 1...

on Apr 30, 2010

^Be less anti-social and you'll have half your clan up there too.

on Apr 30, 2010

Xynth is already in the tier 2 list. http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/1361942/player/28414/.  Recommending a guy to tier 1 after a beating < an hour ago though... should have been somewhat even based on our tier list anyway.  It wasn't.  It was a fun game though.

I didn't play well, but Obiwhan is a terrible Rook, the fact that he wanted to go to the mana flag to fight Oculus instead of helping push rook on the HP flag at the start of the game says it all.  And the game wasn't really mith's fault, it was mine from being too aggressive.  But it was still a fine game until Jona's triple smite sent it all down hill.  Also, I think this is the very next game http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/1362055/player/35153/.  Mith actually had a decent rook holding HP so he proceeded to single handedly own the other team with 7 kills in like a 12 minute game.

And Duelist Cuirass with Erebus.

But he does have the basic skills down. Item orders are easy to tweak.

Besides, you probably would've been fine if you took advantage of the rook, depending on how he set up his towers. According to hedgie, it's called "baby-sitting" but according to me it's called "a gift."

on Apr 30, 2010

There's babysitting and there is "the other team's number one priority is kill the rook over and over".

This is pretty normal and I'm find on double-porting to a Rook's towers to get kills. Not my problem. This is especially true if I'm Oak. However, twice that game you walked up out of your farm against a team of speed stackers to place one tower up by their gold tower. This resulted in their entire team converging in on you, and both of us burning ports and you a sigil in an attempt to keep you alive. This rarely netted us kills and they frequently won "the consumable war" as 2 ports + 1 sigil >= 1 or 2 sigils.

The tower at the gold is to force them to tp, because all of them have to waste a tp to come over, and the two of you would require to tp to come for a kill. I might've used a sigil once or twice but I always use them sparingly so I have enough money to get myself better items - which I still ended up getting the full set with no kills.

If they were going speed build, then their hp is low, which means they wouldn't be able to hold the 3 of us for too long. Once they run away, that's when you start pushing their portal towers. Basic strategy 101.

on Apr 30, 2010

Not really having to port on you. Usually they would just come from the gold flag and two were in the middle capping XP and saw you overextended. Rook is slow, they are fast and Fire Aura makes them faster.

I do understand we won most/all of those engagements so it's not like we lost the game because you were doing what we did. But sometimes I like to do things like farm or cap flags instead of porting to save you with little to no mana and it is frustrating leaving creepwaves with tons of XP and gold because you decided to walk up to a tower.

End result: Their DA is at level 15 while I'm 12 and he starts farming the entire map.

You may have had plenty of money to get yourself better items but we didn't. We weren't running around with Orbs. 'Course the game did last long enough that I did get some nice stuff but that was mostly towards the end.

I'm not blaming the game on you or anything. And I do expect having to port in to save you a few times a game: you're Rook. I'm simply saying, you were frustrating to play with because you kept walking out of your farm in an attempt to "get a kill" when we weren't getting kills: simply dogpiling in one corner of the map and not leveling up.
