Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Just thought I'd get this going and then weigh in sometime soon.  I picked it up and, so far, absolutely love it.  My first character is a Sith Juggernaut Warrior.  I love how its really story driven and the huge amount of voice acting.  I also dig how crafting is setup.  Anyway, all the time I'm going to put into this post for now... back to playing

Thought I'd update this with some useful info instead of having to dig through the thread.

Clan info, servers, etc.

Many of us are on the Kass City server - includes many SD staffers + folks from the community

  • pacov (pacov)- Bounty Hunter - mercenary (dps) - level 50
  • pewpewpacov - Imperial Agent - sniper (dps) - level 30ish
  • ryat (ryat) - Bounty Hunter - power tech
  • carbon (Ryden) - Sith Assassin
  • seamw (Ahblaka) - imperial agent

Ryat has several other character on Hyperspace Cannon server:

Ryat - Sentinel
Ryata - Gunslinger
Tayme - Sage
Zachy - Commando

Incoming MMO rant...

I cannot believe people will actually pay 60$ for a game AND pay 14$ a month subscription.  I mean jebus people have more money than sense. Why would you pay 60$ for something you can't even use unless you pay them a monthly subscription? I like MMOs don't get me wrong, but I'll pay either a subscription fee or 60$ for the game.. not both. Seriously wtf is the deal with double dipping like that.

I looked at the game cause it seemed cool.. but omg no way i'm going to pay 60$ for a game That i have to maintain a monthly fee to play. The software should be included with the subscription since its useless without one anyway. (the fact that some people actually paid 150$ for the collectors edition boggles my mind)

Current run down on Kass City server:

  • pacov (pacov)- Bounty Hunter - mercenary (heal primary, then dps)
  • ryat (ryat) - Bounty Hunter - power tech
  • carbon (Ryden) - Sith Assassin
  • seamw (Ahblaka) - imperial agent

Those are all of the folks I've got added to my pals list.  So, enough to start a guild.  Not sure if we all have to be online at the same time to do it or how it works.  Re:  Frogboy and guild - I really don't know if he wants to play with us or has just been busy or what.  Can't add him to the pals list under the user name he threw out anyway.  I'm all up for adding him or joining his guild if we are all invited (and if he created 1).  Barring that, though, I think we should just set up a guild.

I'm not exactly sure what we get out of forming a guild, if anything, though.  I spoke with someone the other day who may or may not know what he was talking about, but he told me that the guilds really don't have much functionality in SWTOR now.  Guess we'll see.  Anyway, if someone wants to put up the credits, I say we set up one ASAP and see how things work.  If froggy turns up and has a guild, we could always just join that instead.

re: other stuff - Holy crap am I crafting up a storm.  I've literally been spending 100% of my time during quests, etc, sending my companion on crafting missions.  The downside is that I'm perpetually low on credits as I'm just trying to level the crafting skills so I can start cranking out implants.  At the rate I'm going, it will probably be another day or 2 until I can start making a bunch and hook you fellas up.  I figure I'll craft a few up to the prototype level.

Re: crew skills we could use in our group - so far both carbon and I are using bio-chem as our mains.  We could definitely use folks with different crafting focuses than that - pretty sure he and I will have bio-chem covered (especially considering I'm a bit fanatical about crafting).  I'm much more interested in having a good balance with crew skills than I am on team composition at this point.  So far with team comp, we've seen that we can do fine playing as hybrids, but I'd wager much later in the game that it could be a problem if we aren't super focused - who knows though, maybe we are fine.

re: guild names - I really don't care.  If one of you wants to create it and call it whatever, then fine with me.

@Fistalis - unfortunately, all of you mmo bastards wrecked things for those that came along later.  If WoW didn't originally have a similar pricing scheme in place (buy the game and then buy a subscription), the concept probably wouldn't be as easily accepted.  Odds are SWTOR will have some sort of way to try it out play without buying the game sometime in the next 6 months.  Anyway, it's pricey, but I'm certainly enjoying myself.  Will I be playing this 6 month's done the road?  Who knows.  Do I feel like I'm getting my money's worth?  Yes... even though it's effectively $75 bucks for my first month.

If Kaas Doesn't have a queue sometime this weekend, I will start up an Agent-Operative there and send you guys a tell. Also, I will probably go with Cybertech.

Hope to see you there.  i've hit a queue for less than 10 minutes 2 or so times now in a few weeks.  Its not too bad imo.

Ryat said something about Armortech for his crafting skill but I'll let him comment on that.

I could always replace my crafting skill, if its needed. All Im crafting biochem wise is some reusable stim pack, adrenaline, and med packs.

You could use my purples Pav, but no one else could. I wont go implants b/c your gun ho about those. Think I'll stick with Stims and other short time boosters. Since I use them alot.

As for the guild, Im good either way. Just didnt wanna step on toes since Frogboy invited us. But if as a group we wanna just make our own i'll jump right in there with yall.

Everyone should just play their toon like they want, and if and when we do end game stuff we can worry about being spec right and having proper gear.

I've added you guys as friends.

I'm not sure how one adds someone to the guild without actually being near them.

on Dec 30, 2011

I wish the guild vendor would let you apply in the game to a guild.

I am an Operative Healer Focus. I do Cybertech. I found one of the Lords of Hyperion and got them to give my name to a guild officer. I would rather we all try to join Hyperion as a larger guild is a better guild.

@Lord Xia, I would love to have a fellow Operative in the mix. Are you thinking about DPS or Healing?

Yeah I am going Armortech. I build Heavy and Medium armors and when I get the system going I can craft some for those that can use such.

Edit: by the way, has anyone tried fart and damn in the chat box? Its kinda funny how fart, which barely even counts as a curse word, is **** out but damn, which is a tad bit stronger IMHO, is not.

But which one is used more annoyingly by MMO users?

on Dec 31, 2011

Monthly fees were big WAY before WoW.  Just remember that WoW did almost nothing new.

The whole reason that MMORPGs got developed big time in the late 90s was that companies saw that people were willing to pay montly fees in Ultima Online, which really accelerated the growth of the genre.  The genre wouldn't be nearly as far along if it wasn't for the monthly fees.  I mean, Bioware wasn't going to spend $100 million+ on a game without monthly fees.

In any case, the first month is free.  Pretend its a normal game that you can play for a month if the montly fee bothers you.  Then re-up for a month every 6 months or so and pretend that the added content is a $15 expansion pack.

In any case, I'm level 41 (with my crafting almost maxed out - ~380 in Artifacting and Archaeology), but I might come over and play with you guys when I complete the single player stuff with this character.
