Pacov's place to enjoy the show.
Published on December 18, 2011 By pacov In PC Gaming

Just thought I'd get this going and then weigh in sometime soon.  I picked it up and, so far, absolutely love it.  My first character is a Sith Juggernaut Warrior.  I love how its really story driven and the huge amount of voice acting.  I also dig how crafting is setup.  Anyway, all the time I'm going to put into this post for now... back to playing

Thought I'd update this with some useful info instead of having to dig through the thread.

Clan info, servers, etc.

Many of us are on the Kass City server - includes many SD staffers + folks from the community

  • pacov (pacov)- Bounty Hunter - mercenary (dps) - level 50
  • pewpewpacov - Imperial Agent - sniper (dps) - level 30ish
  • ryat (ryat) - Bounty Hunter - power tech
  • carbon (Ryden) - Sith Assassin
  • seamw (Ahblaka) - imperial agent

Ryat has several other character on Hyperspace Cannon server:

Ryat - Sentinel
Ryata - Gunslinger
Tayme - Sage
Zachy - Commando

Krazikarl

Quoting pacov, reply 78@Fistalis - unfortunately, all of you mmo bastards wrecked things for those that came along later. If WoW didn't originally have a similar pricing scheme in place (buy the game and then buy a subscription), the concept probably wouldn't be as easily accepted. Odds are SWTOR will have some sort of way to try it out play without buying the game sometime in the next 6 months. Anyway, it's pricey, but I'm certainly enjoying myself. Will I be playing this 6 month's done the road? Who knows. Do I feel like I'm getting my money's worth? Yes... even though it's effectively $75 bucks for my first month.

Monthly fees were big WAY before WoW.  Just remember that WoW did almost nothing new.

The whole reason that MMORPGs got developed big time in the late 90s was that companies saw that people were willing to pay montly fees in Ultima Online, which really accelerated the growth of the genre.  The genre wouldn't be nearly as far along if it wasn't for the monthly fees.  I mean, Bioware wasn't going to spend $100 million+ on a game without monthly fees.

In any case, the first month is free.  Pretend its a normal game that you can play for a month if the montly fee bothers you.  Then re-up for a month every 6 months or so and pretend that the added content is a $15 expansion pack.

In any case, I'm level 41 (with my crafting almost maxed out - ~380 in Artifacting and Archaeology), but I might come over and play with you guys when I complete the single player stuff with this character.

Just to clarify. Monthly fees aren't an issue. Its charging 60$ for software that can only be used IF you pay the monthly fee. I'll accept either a monthly fee or the purchase of software.. but not both. Especially considering the 60$ software is useless without a paid subscription. (although I'm sure the disc makes a nice coaster)

Imho its just a way to prod the consumer into continuing to pay monthly fees since he's already dropped 60$ on a game.. if he cancels his subscription after the first month thats 60$ down the drain. (yes you got a month.. but who would rent a game for 60$ for one month?)

Forces the player to feel they have a vested interest to keep paying, and if a player doesn't like the game.. who cares they made their 60$. They don't really need his subscription at that point. They sold him a Plastic coaster for 60$ and its not like hes using bandwidth.

(I own 3 or 4 UO coasters.. and 3 or 4 FFXI coasters so its not like I haven't fallen for it before   although I will say UO had and still has a lot of private emulator servers you don't need to pay a subscription fee for.. had it not been for that I wouldn't have spent so much time on it back in highschool)

Well back from vacation so will be on soon. Though I might play my Jedi for a bit.

The invite was sent exactly when my father called for help with Quickbooks. By the time I accepted it said the invite has expired or something to that tune. I will have to catch another sometime soon.

On a side note, I have been marooned on Tattoine with no credits near a scrapyard full of deadly droids. Kaliyo, my gun for hire, my ship's droid (whom I suspect has been secretly spying on me for a rogue order of the Sith) and a new Jawa friend I have made are stuck scavenging to make cybertronics and sell at the local markets. I need to make a cool 80,000 credits to afford a speeder and get my ship out of lockdown by the local imperial authorities. I would use my clout as an Imperial Operative, but I am deep undercover and can't risk raising suspicion. It is going to be a long night.

40k for speeder training... grumble grumble...

on Jan 03, 2012

So I bought the game and have been playing. Having tons of delay/lag in the Jedi temple on tython, at various places in the begining quests on tython, and now in the fleet. Grrr. I posted to the forums and got no response. I put in a ticket, but i'm not expecting much help. I figured i'd ask here. Anyone else experiencing lots of lag when you have a more than ample computer and updated all yr drivers and not running other programs?

These are my comp stats:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67Ghz 2.66 Ghz
RAM:8.00 GB
Windows 7
Graphics Card:
ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series with 1GB memory.

I also have a direct cable connection. Blah.

We have pretty much the same set up, Birthday party.  I would suggest turning off shadows and bloom.  I don't even notice them being gone and it has made a world of difference.

I am helpful!

I keep mine at lowest detail and I am playing on a server on the other end of the country from my little house. Never seen a bit of lag.

Did you guys hear that Obama declared tomorrow a nation SWOTOR holiday? We are all supposed to log in 8 hours of play. He said it is for the economy.

Then he signed the NDAA into law and revealed himself to be a sith lord.  But who is his apprentice?  Anyway, the bounty hunting business is going to be getting better at least.

Also - 40,000 credits for a mount... again... ffs I say.  Some bastard at work said it was 8k for the mount and 20k for the training... shame I'm 20k short now.  Smeh!  Smeh I say

on Jan 03, 2012

lol,

and to think they want 20k plus for extra storage slots.

on Jan 03, 2012

Eh, you'll get over the sticker shock real fast once you start paying 30k+ per new skill rank for your class abilities as you pass level 40.

on Jan 03, 2012

Just keep on Slicin' always when logged and you'll be okay.

on Jan 03, 2012

Except Slicing got nerfed, didn't it?

on Jan 03, 2012

You level 2 mount costs 210,000 just to train the skill, so have fun with that.

Anyway, I started up a bounty hunter on Kaas City named Krazikarl.  Servers are going nuts tonight for me though.
