Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Update 5/25/2017

  • This thread is all done.  I've lost interest in jibba jibbing here, but its been fun.  Thanks for all the memories.
  • I am streaming from time to time on twitch - generally just when I'm trying hard in ranked though.  If interested, you can check that out here:  https://www.twitch.tv/pacovdumptruck

Well, I started a thread back in Dec 2011 that’s seen a lot of activity (some 922,000 views over the course of a few years apparently...).  That thread had a good deal of tips/strategies/discussions about League of Legends from new and old players alike.  You can find the previous thread (now archived) here:  https://forums.joeuser.com/413863.  I think its time to start fresh with a new thread.

What’s this thread all about?
For those that followed the previous thread, the type of content you see here will be fairly consistent to what you are used to.  Please consider this a place to discuss LoL related content as you like.  I'll do the same and treat the thread as a blog as well where I talk about what’s going on with me in LoL.  Feel free to jump in and join the discussion if you like.

Quick background on me
I played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011, I started getting heavily involved in League of Legends, and folks from the community were kind enough to help me figure things out.  I play LoL most nights, stream, make videos and it’s my main gaming interest.

No worries.  In other news, swan is back and is now a diamond skill level adc.

Still haven't quite found a champ I'm really wanting to get in a ton of reps with.  Same old prob where I enjoy playing X champion a bit, but the get bored. I put the in reps, find out what I like/dislike, strength/weakness, matchups, positioning, etc, but I get bored after such repetition.

Most recently, I put in a bunch of reps on tf, donger, and kassadin.  Dong has pretty close to the safest laning phase in the game.  Eg its pretty freaking standard for to make my 1st back with > 1400 gold.  But its also rare for me to pick someone off, so its a bit of a wash.  His teamfight positioning is a bit of a challenge for me and it becomes insanely difficult to win if your team falls behind.

TF = lane phase isn't too bad except some matchups.  Requires good use of ult/rotations and requires teammates capitalizing on good ults.  Highly team dependent to get rolling at least.

Kassadin - I haven't played against any good mids yet when I've run him.  He should have a weaker laning phase than some.  I seem to do ok with farming. Also seems very heavily team reliant, but honestly, I've just been playing him with some lower elo, crazy time setups, so I can't really say.  He does have a piss poor win rate at 46.39% out of mid, which makes me think the effort probably isn't worth it.

Another thing - so as I'm putzing around trying to figure out a mid I want to put in a bunch of time on, I'm looking at this chart:

http://champion.gg/statistics/#?sortBy=general.winPercent&order=descend&roleSort=Middle

I pay close attention to 3 things.  1 - win % 2 - play rate 3 - avg games.  If the play rate is super low with a high win rate, I generally assume that's either very high elo folks or one trick wonders (generally the former).  For instance, donger has a 55.64% win rate in mid with 1.08% pick rate.  Avg games played = 195.19.  So, its likely higher elo folks with much better mechanics than me that have put in ALOT of reps in w/ the champ.

For the currently kind of OP champs - lux is way at the top. 54.61% w/r, played 12% of the time, and most importantly, avg player games of 62.56.  This means she's being played a bunch by folks that aren't exactly lux mains and they are still having a bunch of success.  That means I have pretty decent odds of climbing in rank by playing lux (a champ I'm already pretty good at).  Annie/Lux mid seem to be the current best mid picks for climbing based on stats and probable skill level required to do well.

Anyway, I start with that list and then think about who would be fun to play.  Ahri's another one I could pick up and work on, but I actually kind of suck with her.

Usually.  It's a good idea to check the win percentage for games played chart to see if there's a drop or lack of spiking at the 125+ mark.

If you see the drop off, the champion is most likely to be a great counter pick who get's countered hard.  For example Galio.

Cow just let me know what was going on with my account. I'm going to contact riot tomorrow. I have no idea what is going on. Miss you all!

Off topic - so, occasionally I get pretty bad back pain.  My doc prescribed muscle relaxers.  Might as well call them sleeping pills.  Took one yesterday with dinner and holy crap, it pretty well knocked me out.  Hoping there is such a thing as a muscle relaxer that doesn't KO you completely - was some nice forced sleep, I suppose though.

Man - my rengar was total crap yesterday.  Boaz kind of drives me crazy wanting support every game now.  My whole changing my name to support pacov didn't clear things up for him.  hue.  Anyway, rango + pacov = not a good time.  Should have just lane ganked top.  Felt like I had zero gank potential due to our composition.  god bless raka anyway... rassum frassum

My mother uses an electrode machine that pulses her back muscles. Works for her when she has problems.

Boaz was nice enough to play Jungle for us in the two games you weren't around for since we had someone that kinda had to go Support.  Then you showed up and was nice enough to offer to fill in any role but ADC.

At one point you were heading bot but then turned around and declared bot lane ungankable while it was pushing to our tower. I wasn't sure what was going on.  Was it cause Soraka lanes should never be ganked even when Kalista can give her CC?  Or... when people 'steal' Support Pacov's role they don't get ganks?

yah - i've got one of those things as well.  Haven't broken it out in a bit.  Once I'm willing to go to the muscle relaxer level (eg I lose my day more or less), I'm in pretty bad shape.

@thunder - maybe try not to think the worst of me.  It's tiresome.  Yeah - basically I refuse to gank a lane if someone plays support in games where I offer to fill.

my rengar was total crap yesterday.

Happens.  Wish it was better, but I was making bad decisions.  None of which involved trying to screw over a lane.  Talk about things you are interested in and skip trying to dig up pointless drama please.

Something I'm interested in:  Sorting out misunderstandings on this forum so we can all get along better in game.

So for instance, if you essentially say "I had a bad Rengar game... pretty much because my team picked champions I couldn't gank for.  And because Boaz forced me into my second best role." well, I might just comment on that so that we can all get on the same page for the next time you have to go jungle.

The whole thing about not ganking for someone cause they stole your role, I'm sure you wouldn't ever do that to someone you know.  Was completely a joke, sorry it touched a nerve.

We all have bad games.  The game before you joined up, I had an absolutely wretched Kalista game.  Far worse than your Rengar game.  Best thing is to learn from your own mistakes and then move on when those things happen.

Rengo game:

What I think could of been done differently or pacov could of done:

Rengar is horrible in 1v1s early. Don't fight a skarner in the river especially when your mid laner is at his tower and will not be able to assist you before the enemy mid lane can get to you.

gank for your viegar after he hits 6. At this point viegar does stupid damage. Your damage plus viegar ult and q should kill just about anyone in a second or 2.

Camp the land that's getting camped: brad was tower dived once or twice in that game and any intervention by Rengar could of saved him or netted kills during the dive/aftermath.

Just things to think about I am not trying to be mean but these are the things to talk about if you want to talk about that game. No one really voiced these things either in game. Like I could of called for a gank mid when I was 6 but didn't.

The comedic styling of thunder "you decided not to gank for bot lane because someone took your role" cleese.

I don't think there are any teachable moments or any take aways from that game.  I 2nd picked rengar, played poorly, they took champs with decent escapes, and I don't think raka helped out composition.  If you need to defend/attack or reason through it, you can just hop back to I 2nd picked rengar, played poorly - that's totally fine with me.  Now we can all get along better in game or something.

edit - seriously though, I was feeling f'd up and later took muscle relaxers and passed out.  There no part of me saying imma great rengar you guys blew it... which is what makes this kind of annoying to me (and more so with the didn't gank for bot lane stuff).

Thank you folks!  You've been a great crowd.  Don't forget to tip your waitress.

Never once even entered my mind - quite honestly and not being sarcastic.  I was like on my own planet the entire game - pretty well spaced out.
