Pacov's place to enjoy the show.

Update 5/25/2017

  • This thread is all done.  I've lost interest in jibba jibbing here, but its been fun.  Thanks for all the memories.
  • I am streaming from time to time on twitch - generally just when I'm trying hard in ranked though.  If interested, you can check that out here:  https://www.twitch.tv/pacovdumptruck

Well, I started a thread back in Dec 2011 that’s seen a lot of activity (some 922,000 views over the course of a few years apparently...).  That thread had a good deal of tips/strategies/discussions about League of Legends from new and old players alike.  You can find the previous thread (now archived) here:  https://forums.joeuser.com/413863.  I think its time to start fresh with a new thread.

What’s this thread all about?
For those that followed the previous thread, the type of content you see here will be fairly consistent to what you are used to.  Please consider this a place to discuss LoL related content as you like.  I'll do the same and treat the thread as a blog as well where I talk about what’s going on with me in LoL.  Feel free to jump in and join the discussion if you like.

Quick background on me
I played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011, I started getting heavily involved in League of Legends, and folks from the community were kind enough to help me figure things out.  I play LoL most nights, stream, make videos and it’s my main gaming interest.

I tried a different mouse with a higher DPI awhile back, even after playing around 20~ games with it I couldn't adjust at all and kept missing the click on even CSing I don't even want to talk about my skillshot accuracy for those games. Moral of the story is higher DPI isn't easy to adjust to for everyone, and while it might help them eventually, in some cases it isn't worth it. Doesn't help that the mouse was a POS though...

Just to note, there's a Mouse Cursor Speed option or whatever in the League settings ingame.

i'll throw in my expierence...

Back when i used to play the game a few years ago, i had pretty high DPI settings (3200?).  i think the high DPI always contributed to my poor CS the first 5-minutes on Anivia

Now that i play a lot less, i have much lower DPI settings. i'm currentlu only 1500, and thinking of dropping it down a little, since recently when i "panic flash" half the time i move my mouse too far and move the screen completely off my character X.x

Also, keep in mind pacov has a much higher resolution monitor than the rest of us do. i am pretty sure that more resolution => more DPI to have the same cursor movement in 'monitor inches', but i could be wrong.

Generally, i think higher DPI is better if you're focusing on teamfights and you are playing longer range, magey champs. Lower DPI becomes more valuable as you have more point-and-click (ADC and assassins). i think that melee could also have slightly higher DPI than ranged, since they have less "input error" issues (eg, if you  aren't using A-click and you right click NEXT to your target, if you are melee you just move into range. if you're ranged, you just moved into death). But it's ultimately a personal thing and there's not much to truly debate...

Higher resolution, yes, but LoL does not support the 4k stuff or the next step down.  The higher the resolution, the smaller the minion health bars get and a few other anomallys.  Its bad enough I considered it unplayable and stopped with 4k altogether.  Odds are I'm playing a resolutions similar to you folks or only slightly higher.

Yah - I have to agree that the DPI thing probably is a personal thing based on all the info/feedback.  I would say that if you find yourself a little too sluggish in moving the mouse across the screen quickly, bumping the mouse speed in game or adjusting your DPI is probably a good thing to do.  Also, I think its worth noting that I don't know that we are all talking about the same thing.  I believe everyone is impacted differently based on their DPI settings, potentially windows mouse settings, and the in game mouse slider.  If we were doing apples to apples or closer, it might be worth setting that baseline.  For me, I'm finding better results using a higher DPI anyway.

I'm actually more keyed into the resolution thing I was on about a few posts back (eg you can potentially process information better the further back you are or the more you can continuously see.  Ex if I place my face very close to the monitor I can only see/process the info that is visible.  As I move back I can see more.  If I move back even further, I think my ability to process the information would improve as long as I'm still getting the same needed info (I need to be able to last hit, so I need to see health bars or numbers, champ stats, mini map).   If I can see all that info at the same time without even having to glance around, my awareness improves.

This got me toying around with different resolutions within a window on my monitor.  I noticed some improvement, but then decided screw it and went back to how I normally play - full screen.  I did notice minor improvements to awareness, but it was pretty minor.

Lol, KARTHUS NERFS.  The new patch deletes Hecarim, nerfs KARTHUS, Skarner, Swain, Malzahar...

I think that Riot just gets drunk sometimes and nerfs random champions.

S6 in general is an acid trip, so that would fit...
